ALAMOSA — A Christmas Cantata, "Wise Men Still Seek Him," will be presented Sunday, Dec. 15, at 6 p.m., at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 927 Weber Dr., Alamosa. The program will be a musical tribute to the birth of the Savior.
The Cantata will include the Valley Community Concert Choir, an Organ and Piano Duet by Paul Cornum and Becky Hand, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Stake Choir, and a Church Youth Choir.
Kerry Reed, a church member who oversees the music for the Stake Choir, told the Valley Courier the performance is in its third year.
"We try to expand it each year to include more people. The first year, it was simply our local church choir, and we continue to invite more people. This year, we have more individuals, and we are excited," Reed said.
Reed said numerous pieces of music will be performed, including "Glory to the Newborn King," "Christmas Bells are Ringing," "For unto us a child is born," and "Shine for me Again, Star of Bethlehem."
"There will be some congressional hymns and traditional pieces like "Silent Night," we will ask the congregation to join in. We will have some very brief narration as we talk about some of the symbols of Christmas, such as the Christmas wreath and tree. We intertwine that with the music."
The Stake Choir has 32 singers, the Youth Choir has about 16 members, and many Valley Community Concert Choir members will join them, showcasing the unity and community spirit of the event.
The concert will include an organ and piano duet by Paul Cornum and Becky Hand, "Their performance is really spectacular, it is quite a feat. The name of their arrangement is called 'Angels,' and if you haven't heard them perform it is really spectacular," said Reed.
Admission is free, and everyone is invited to attend. The program is anticipated to last approximately one hour. Refreshments will be served after the performance. A Christmas Cantata will be presented on Sunday, Dec. 15, at 6 p.m.
