ALAMOSA — Two community leaders were recognized at the meeting of Alamosa City Council Wednesday night, for their contributions to future generations in Alamosa.   

ALAMOSA — Construction of the new SpringHill Suites Hotel, located at 615 6th St. in downtown Alamosa, has led to the need for ongoing parking adjustments in the downtown area. Construction, which began on the property on March 3, is anticipated to continue for up to 18 months. 

DENVER — Generation Wild, a component of Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) that works to connect kids and the outdoors, aims to ensure future generations enjoy Colorado's landscapes and open space heritage enough to protect them.

ALAMOSA COUNTY — Adapture Renewables/Haynach Solar LLC has submitted a preliminary application to Alamosa County to develop 110 MW of solar PV generation and a 110 MW battery energy storage system capable of harnessing four hours of electricity. This project, if approved, could bring significant economic and environmental benefits to the community.

ALAMOSA — Korsail Energy’s proposed 900-acre solar energy site – Cornflower Solar – again had its 1041 application denied by the Alamosa County Commissioners during a public hearing on Wednesday, April 9, a decision that will directly impact the local community. 

WASHINGTON – Rep. Jeff Hurd (R-CO-03), along with Reps. Don Bacon (R-NE-02), Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ-05), and Gregory Meeks (D-NY-05) introduced bipartisan legislation to return Congress’ constitutionally authorized role in setting and approving U.S. trade policy. H.R.2665, The Trade Review Act of 2025, requires that unilateral tariffs proposed by the executive branch receive congressional authority.  

ALAMOSA — “For the April, May, June seasonal outlook in Colorado, we have pretty high confidence that it’s going to be warmer and drier,” said Russ Schumacher, Colorado State Climatologist in a recent presentation to water users in the San Luis Valley. 

SAN LUIS VALLEY — American Rivers, a nonprofit environmental advocacy group, and One Water ECON, a strategic planning and economics consulting firm, have collaborated and published “The Economic Value of Water Resources in Colorado's San Luis Valley,” a 29-page study analyzing the river's importance to the region.

ALAMOSA — After news of the tariffs imposed by President Trump were made public on Wednesday afternoon, the Valley Courier spoke to Tyler Garrett, director of government relations with the Rocky Mountain Farmers Union (RMFU). Garrett, along with many of the other presenters, had warned of the impact tariffs would have on agriculture when he spoke at the Southern Colorado Rocky Mountain Ag Conference in February.

ALAMOSA — Maria Kramer, Alamosa Public Library Manager, and Maria DeHerrera, Director of the Conejos County Library, recently traveled to the Colorado state capitol and met with lawmakers Senator Cleave Simpson and Representative Matthew Martinez. The purpose, in Kramer’s words, was to speak to their representatives about the importance of libraries to the San Luis Valley. 

USA — According to a statement from the Association of National Park Rangers, Department of the Interior Secretary Doug Burgum’s Secretarial Order says, “This Order is intended to ensure that all national parks and national historic sites, which are managed by the Department of the Interior (Department), remain open and accessible for the benefit and enjoyment of the American people and to ensure that the National Park Service (NPS) will provide the best customer service experience for all visitors.” 

CENTER – SLV Area Extension Youth Specialist Carol Gurule recently held the Colorado State University San Luis Valley Area Extension Office’s 6-week program of Strengthening Families, “Familias Fuertes,” in Center Colorado at the Center Consolidated School District. 

ALAMOSA — On March 31, in honor of Cesar Chavez Day, Adams State University hosted a lecture by Eduardo Chavez, the grandson of civil rights activist Cesar Chavez.
