SPL releases All-League track teams

ALAMOSA – The Southern Peaks League released its Class 2A and 1A All-League track and field teams on Tuesday with several athletes from the San Luis Valley being recognized.

The All-League teams are based on the MaxPreps state leaders after last week’s state meet.

In Class 2A, Del Norte’s Damon Ledford-Vigil was named the boys Athletes of the Year, and Monte. Vista’s Shae Romero won the award for the girls. Ledford-Vigil was All-League in the 400-meter dash and the pole vault, and Romero was All-League in the 200- and 400-meter dashes and the 800-meter run.

Other Del Norte athletes who were honored were Brendan Hemmerling in the 200 meters and Mads Kreutzer in the 1,600 and 3,200-meter runs. The Del Norte boys were also All-League in the 4x400-meter relay.

For the Del Norte girls, Scarlett Maxwell was All-League in the 1,600 and 3,200, Taylor Off was All-League in the high jump, and Madeline Mitchell in the pole vault. The Tigers also earned All-League in the girls 4x800 relay.

For the Monte Vista boys, Azaraiah Hurtado was All-League in the 100-meter dash and Cristian Hernandez was All-League in the 110-meter high hurdles. The Pirates also won All-League in the 4x100 and 4x200 relays.

The Monte Vista girls also had an All-League selection in Olyvia Wofford in the 100 hurdles. The Pirates also won in the girls 4x200 relay.

The Center girls had four All-League athletes in Oceana Garcia in the 100, Becklynn Bogner in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles, Maya Swanson in the triple jump. And Emiliana Valdez in the shot put and discus. The Vikings also won in the girls 4x100.

Del Norte’s Tamara Creel was the Class 2A Coach of the Year.

In Class 1A, Moffat’s Kandra Pollard was the girls Athlete of the Year after also winning in the 100, 200 and long jump.

Also winning. For the Moffat girls was Shauna Pollard in the 400 and Zenna Hess in the 1,600. The Cowboys also took All-League in the girls 4x400.

The Moffat boys were led by Javad Taylor in the 100 and 200 and Cashel Johnson in the discus. They also took the boys 4x400.

Sangre de Cristo had four All-League athletes. For the boys, Brody Artaechevarria won in the 400 meters and Asher Allington in the pole vault. The Thunderbird girls were led Rorie Tillaman in the pole vault and Taylor Freel in the discus.

Sierra Grande had two athletes who were recognized. Rolando Najera won in the long jump and triple jump, and Jadyn Martinez won in the high jump. The Panthers also won in the boys 4x100.

Creede’s Charlie Heinrich won in the boys 110 and 300 hurdles and Ava Mankowski won in the girls 300 hurdles.

Antonito had only one All-League athlete in Faith Medellin in the 3,200.

Moffat’s Marie Pollard was the Class 1A Coach of the Year.
