ALAMOSA – The annual Alamosa Round-UP took place this past weekend at the rodeo grounds.
In rough stock events, two cowboys took advantage of re-rides to gain victory in their events.
In bull riding, Caelan Reynolds of Marana, Ariz., had some bad luck on his first ride on Test Your Faith on Friday night. The bull stumbled and fell and Reynolds got the opportunity of a re-ride and he took advantage of the second chance as he scored 85 points on Hey Honey to secure the championship.
Also going to the pay window in bull riding were Colorado Kid Mackey of Ignacio who scored 83 points on Coconut Twist also on Friday, Mason Reine of Steamboat Springs who scored 82 on Rougarou on Saturday, Chris McKenna of Walsenburg who scored 79 on Lucky Charm on Friday, and Colton Kent of Pueblo who scored 79 on Brahman Bob on Saturday.
Bareback riding also had a cowboy take advantage of a second chance as Kash Money Loyd was fouled riding Suspicious Minds on Saturday. On his re-ride, he scored 84 points on Sassy Pants to tie for first place.
Dalton Williams of Loveland also scored 84 points on No Bueno on Friday for the co-championship.
Others scoring big paydays included Elan Smith of Pinedale, Wyo., who scored 77 points on Blue Eyed Lucy on Saturday, Evan Betony of Tonalea, Ariz., who scored 76 on Up All Night on Friday, and Creede Guardamondo of Avondale who scored 76 on Ranch Girl on Friday.
The Saddle bronc riding saw all of its best scores occur on Saturday night. Jack Chase of Magdalena, N.M., score 84 ½ points on Wolverine, and Traven Sharon of Ordway scored 84 ½ on Miss Bay Monster to tie for first place.
Quirt Carroll of Galeton was third with 78 on High Cotton, and Colby Smith of Burns, Wyo., scored 75 on Mexican Hat.
In timed events, Kalane Anders on Mills, Wyo., won steer wrestling on 4.1 seconds on Friday. Scott Dorenkamp of Bristol was second in 4.5 on Saturday, Talon Sterkel of Brighton was third in 4.7 on Friday, and David Gallagher of Brighton was fourth in 5.0 on Saturday.
Tie down roping was won by Cory Bomhoff of Cheyenne, Wyo., in 9.3 seconds on Friday. Boedy Lambert of Wiggins was second in 10.5 on Friday, Ricky Lambert of Wiggins was third in 10.9 on Friday, and Trev McCullar of La Veta was fourth in 12.8 on Saturday.
Winning the team roping competition was a pair of Albuquerque, N.M., cowboys as Seth Hall, and Pace Blanchard had a run of 4.8 seconds on Saturday. Riley Kittle of Woodland, Ala., and Trey Yates of Pueblo were second in 5.0 on Saturday, Kesley Phillips of Rough Rock, Ariz. and Trevor Nowlin of Casa Grande, Ariz., were third in 5.3 in the Friday morning slack, and Brit Ellerman of Sheridan, Wyo. And Cael Espenscheid of Big Piney, Wyo., were fourth in 5.6 on Friday.
In the only women’s event, barrel racing, Rachel Huerkamp of Delta won with a time of 17.43 seconds on Saturday. Brylee Banning of Litchfield Park, Ariz., was second in 17.44 on Friday, Kim Schulze of Larkspur was third in 17.62 on Saturday, and Kim Squires, Carnegie, Okla., was fourth in 17.67 in the slack.
The Al-around Cowboy was Guaradamondo who won $489. In addition to finishing tied for fourth in bareback riding, he was also fifth in tie-down roping in 13.4 seconds on Friday.
