SAGUACHE - On July 4, the Saguache Volunteer Fire Department and other fire departments rocked the town, with vendors, games, a dunk tank, a live DJ, delicious food and much more.
The Stars and Stripes Block Party began at 4 p.m. and kicked into full swing around 5 p.m. as Fourth Street began to fill up with people of all ages. Many people, who were walking down the streets, were wearing red, white and blue apparel, with one lady wearing a red, white and blue flag shirt, and pants that matched perfectly with her outfit, topped off with a red, white and blue cowgirl hat.
There were people dancing in the streets, to the live music of DJ Dale Harrison, as he kept the crowd going with new and popular and older and popular country tunes. Songs like “Tennessee Whiskey,” by Chris Stapelton, “Tennessee Flat Top Box,” by Roseanne Cash,” “One of Them Girls,” by Lee Brice, and tunes by The Judd’s, Wynonna, and Martina Mcbride with “Independence Day,” had the crowd swaying and dancing as they listened to the music and enjoyed the street celebration.
There were kids in the middle of Fourth Street chasing each other with water guns and balloons. There was a deputy also playing with water guns and chasing and laughing with the children.
At the end of the road, many of Saguache's finest had gathered near a dunk tank, where people had the opportunity to dunk local officials. There were many people trying their hand at it, and many people succeeding with the crowd laughing and cheering the officials were dunked.
The fire departments cooked up some great food.
Saguache Fire Chief Kendal Adolph was at the celebration and stated he was excited to see so many people, “We are having a good turn out so far. We have a lot of activities here. We have a dunk tank too, where people can pick a deputy or our undersheriff a firefighter, or EMS, and dunk them.”
The celebration continued with a spectacular fireworks display. Beautiful colors, including red, white, blue, purple, orange, and so many others flashed across the sky.
