ALAMOSA – The Monte Vista High School girls golf team hosted its annual tournament Wednesday at the Monte Vista Country Club.
Alamosa finished in second place with 292. The Lady Mean Moose were led by Morgan Ortega and Taybor Wiedeman who tied for sixth place with a 94. Jayla Quintana and Kiara Gallegos tied for 11th with a 104.
Three additional Alamosa golfers competed as extras and did not figure in the team scoring. Miya Spangler also tied for 11th with a 104, Addison Rice was 17th with a 110, and Valeria Cendejas was 26th with a 122.
Monte Vista took third place with 311. Leading the Lady Pirates was Reagan Futrell who was ninth with a 98. Kiera Sanchez tied for 11th with a 104, Evie Hinds was 16th with a 109, and Kaitlynn Roberts was 17th with a 110.
Nine more Monte Vista golfers were extras. Krissa Padilla and Destiny Pacheco tied for 17th with a 110, Kaylee Voss was 23rd with a 117, Mazi Hinds was 24th with a 118, Taylor Adams was 26th with a 122, Syrenna Keeling was 29th with a 126, Bailey Roberts was 30th with a 127, Jayda Woodke was 31st with a 134, and Jacy Phillips was 33rd with a 140.
Rye won the tournament with 251. It had the medalist in Emma Garcia with an 81.

Alamosa fifth, Monte Vista sixth at Cortez
Both of the SLV girls golf teams competed at the Montezuma- Cortez Invitational Tuesday at the Conquistador Golf Course.
Alamosa finished in fifth place with 313, and it was led by Wiedeman who placed 18th with a 97. Also golfing for the Lady Mean Moose were Quintana who was 28th with a 107, Gallegos who was 30th with a 109, and Hallie Henry who was 35th with a 117.
Monte Vista placed sixth with 316. Leading the Lady Pirates was Futrell who was 21st with a 102, followed by Kaitlynn Roberts who was 25th with a 105, Sanchez who was 30th with a 109, Evie Hinds who was 36th with a 119, and Padilla who was 41st with a 127.
Golfing as extras for Monte Vista were Pacheco who was 34th with a 112, Adams who was 39th with a 125, Voss who was 34th with a 127, Mazi Hinds and Keeling who both finished 46th with a 137, Bailey Roberts who was 48th with a 150, and Woodke who was 49th with a 163.
Piedra Vista (N.M.) won the tournament with 240, followed by Kirtland Central (N.M.) with 244, Durango with 252, Montezuma-Cortez with 282, and Montrose with 297. Piedra Vista’s Annie Yost was the medalist with a one-over-par 73.
Monte Vista second at Fowler
The Lady Pirates competed at the Fowler Invitational Friday at Cottonwood Links and finished second with 321.
Futrell led Monte Vista as she was sixth with a 100. Ellaree Rockey was seventh with a 109, Sanchez was 12th with a 112, and Evie Hinds was 16th with a 114.
Golfing as extras were Pacheco who was ninth with a 110, Padilla who was 11th with a 111, Kaitlynn Roberts who was 25th with a 121, and Voss who was 35th with a 129.
Fowler won the tournament with 295. Pueblo Centennial’s Paula Narros was the medalist with a 91.
What’s next
Both Alamosa and Monte Vista will be at the Salida Invitational on Thursday.
