Monte Vista boys, Center girls win at Sangre meet

MOSCA – The Sangre de Cristo High School track and field team hosted the annual Wayne Thomas Invitational Friday at the Thunderbirds’ stadium with Monte Vista winning the boys meet and Center the girls.

Antonito

The Antonito boys were ninth with 12 points and they had only one placer in Dean Garcia who won the 3,200-meter run in 12:37.77, and he was also fifth in the 400-meter dash in 1:04.06.

The Trojan girls were 10th with 12 points. Faith Medellin won the 3,200 in 15:56.88 and she was also sixth in the 200 in 31.51. Evelet Garcia was sixth in the 400 in 1:28.64.

Centauri

The Falcons were sixth with 28 points. Joey Torres won the 1,600 in 5:47.03 and was second in the 800 in 2:33.03. Austin Norton was second in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles in 51.37 seconds and was fifth in the 110 high hurdles in 23.03.

The Centauri girls finished seventh with 19 points. Genesi Morris was second in the triple jump at 29-10, Elena Reed was fourth in the 400 in 1:26.07, and Lilyana Gutierrez was sixth in the discus at 59-11.

The Falcons were third in the girls 4x100-meter relay in 1:01.42.

Center

The Center boys tied for fourth with 41 points. Placing for the Vikings were Anjel Palma who was second in the triple jump at 37-11 ½, Derriq Thompson who was fourth in the discus at 105-4, Frankie Garcia who was fifth in the 200 in 26.48, Jairo Lino who was fifth in the 800 in 3:01.83, Romeo Villagomez who was fifth in the 1,600 in 6:26.37, and Yanixan Padilla who was sixth in the 200 in 26.60.

The Vikings placed third in three relays including the 4x100 in 49.93, the 4x200 in 1:46.62, and the 4x400 in 4:23.88.

The Center girls scored 130 points. They had three champions in Oceana Garcia in the 100 in 13.55, Nayeli Pablo in the 1,600 in 8:04.11, and Emiliana Valdez in the shot put at 30-8. Garcia was also second in the 200 in 28.85, and Valdez was also second in the discus at 74-10.

Other Center girls placers included Landry Neufeld who was second in the 100 in 13.73, and third in the long jump at 13-0 ½, Shyanne Suazo who was second in the 400 in 1:20.24, Sofia Valdez who was second in the shot put at 26-10 ½ and fifth in the discus at 65-0, Becklynn Bogner who was third in the 200 on 28.94, Camila Miranda who was third in the discus at 67-10 and fifth in the shot put at 24 6 ½, Lavine Casias who was fourth in the 800 in 3:47.84, Maya Swanson who was fourth in the long jump at 12-8, and Veronica Gregorio who was fifth in the 800 in 5:07.74.

The Center girls placed in three relays including wins in the 4x100 in 55.64, and the 4x400 in 5:09.79. They were second in the 4x200 in 1:59.55.

Creede

The Miners placed eighth with 20 points with Charlie Heinrich winning the 110 hurdles in 18.87 and the 300 hurdles in 45.79.

The Creede girls finished tied for fifth with 20 points. Paisley Anderson won the high jump at 4-8, was third in the triple jump at 29 8 ½ and was fourth in the discus at 67-10.

Moffat

The Cowboys tied for fourth with 41 points. Javad Taylor placed in four events including second in the 200 in 25.48, third in the 100 in 12.22, fourth in the 400 in 1:02.00, and fifth in the long jump at 17-4 ½.

Also placing for the Moffat boys were Diego Fries who was third in the 400 in 59.57, third in the long jump at 17-10, and sixth in the 100 in 12.49. Shotaro Siago was fourth in the 110 hurdles in 22.02, Ezekiel Fontenot was fifth in the shot put at 33-2 ½, and Cashel Johnson was sixth in the discus at 97-6 and sixth in the shot put at 32-11 ½.

The Moffat girls were third with 45 points. Kandra Pollard won the long jump at 13-8, was third in the 100 hurdles in 21.23 and fourth in the 100 in 13.90.

Also placing for the Cowboys girls team were Bella Cohen who was second in the 800 in 3:37.51 and third in the 400 in 1:23.39, Zenna Hess who was third in the 800 in 3:39.39 and fifth in the 400 in 1:26.92, and Shauna Pollard who was fifth in the 200 in 31.50 and sixth in the long jump at 11-4.

Monte Vista

The Pirates boys scored 121 points and had three champions in Haven Heredia in the 800 in 2:29.06, Jeremiah McComas in the 100 in 11.66, and JohnJake Naranjo in the discus at 118-7. Heredia was also third in the 1,600 in 5:47.77, and Naranjo was third in the shot put at 35-0 ¼.

Other Monte Vista boys placers included Christian Hernandez who was second in the 110 hurdles in 18.88, Mason Mondragon who was second in the discus at 116-2, William Walker who was second in the 1,600 in 5:47.68 and fourth in the 800 in 2:36.18, Daniel Mascarenas who was third in the triple jump at 35-11 and sixth in the long jump at 17-3, Jonathan Samora who was third in the 200 in 26.10, Ezaiah Archuleta who was fourth in the long jump at 17-9, Xzavion DeHerrera who was fifth in the discus at 104-11, and Ernesto Ochoa who was sixth in the 400 in 1:04.85 and sixth in the 800 in 3:30.27.

The Pirates also won three relays including the 4x100 in 47.76, the 4x200 in 1:39.94, and the 4x400 in 4:04.42.

The Monte Vista girls were second with 61 points. Shae Romero won two events including the 400 in 1:02.60 and the 200 in 27.73. Olyvia Wofford won the 100 hurdles in 18.50.

Other Pirate placers included Reminee Mascarenas was was third in the 100 in 13.79, Elena Baumgardner who was fourth in the 200 in 31.39, Anahi Murrietta who was fifth in the 100 in 14.08, and Jessamy Pacheco who was sixth in the 100 in 14.64.

Monte Vista placed in two girls relays including a win in the 4x200 in 1:56.42. It was also second in the 4x100 in 55.98.

Sanford

The Mustangs placed second in the boys meet with 96 points and they had three champions in Huntley Duran in the 200 in 24.80, Blake Miller in the 400 in58.71, and Kaulen Miller in the high jump at 5-8. Duran was also second in the 100 in 12.00, Blake Miller was third in the 110 hurdles in 20.24, and Kaulen Miller was fourth in the 100 in 12.40.

Other Sanford boys placers included Ryan Cordova who was second in the 400 in 59.28 and fifth in the 100 in 12.49, Jono Peterson who was third in the 800 in 2:34.82 and fourth in the 1,600 in 5:58.95, Clay Willet who was fifth in the triple jump at 33-9, and Noah Crowther who was sixth in the triple jump at 30-6.

The Sanford boys took second in three relays including the 4x100 in 49.89, the 4x200 in 1:46.61, and the 4x400 in 4:10.15.

The Sanford girls placed eighth with 16 points. The Mustangs had only one placer in Kiera Ruggles who was second in the 100 hurdles in 19.77.

They also took fourth in two relays including the 4x100 in 1:03.13, and the 4x200 in 2:19.97.

Sangre de Cristo

The Thunderbird boys team took seventh place with 22 points. It was led by Joe Brown who was second in the shot put at 37-6 ½ and third in the discus at 109-2, Asher Allington who was fourth in the 200 at 26.26, and Brody Arteachevarria who was fourth in the triple jump at 35-5.

The Sangre girls tied for fifth with 20 points. Taylor Freel won the discus at 89-3 and was third in the shot put at 25-3 ½. Rorie Tillman was fourth in the triple jump at 24-5.

Sierra Grande

The Panthers placed third in the boys meet with 48 points with Rolando Najera winning the long jump at 19-3 and the triple jump at 39-4.

Other Sierra Grande boys placers included Jadyn Martinez who was second in the high jump at 5-6 and second in the long jump at 18-11, Carlos Lopez who was fourth in the shot put at 34-7 ½, Daniel, Rodriguez who was sixth in the 1,600 in 6:40.85, and Trinden Worcester who was sixth in the 110 hurdles in 25.70.

The Panthers were also fourth in the 4x100 in 50.83, and fifth in the 4x200 in 1:52.40.

Sierra Grande was fourth in the girls meet with 28 points and was led by Eneria Quintana who won the triple jump at 36-6 ½ and was second in the long jump at 13-7 ½. Lillian Joos was fourth in the triple jump at 24-8 ¼.

Sierra Grande was third in the girls 4x200 in 2:15.69.

What’s next

Antonito, Center, Creede, Del Norte, Moffat, Sanford, Sangre the Cristo and Sierra Grande will be at the Salida Invitational on Saturday. Alamosa, Centauri and Monte Vista will be at the John Tate Steel City Invitational at Dutch Clark Stadium in Pueblo on Friday.
