LAKEWOOD – Alamosa High School’s Ethan Merrick went into this past weekend’s Class 3A State Meet looking to defend the state title in the 3,200-meter run at Jefferson County Stadium. However, Merrick got off to a slow start and finished in third place.
Merrick made a late charge and closed to within a few seconds of the two leaders. However, he was unable to catch them finishing in a time of 9:52.47 on Thursday.
On Saturday, Merrick competed in the 1,600 meters finishing eighth in 4:27.79.
Other performances for the Alamosa boys on Thursday included Jeremiah DeLaCerda finishing 13th in the 3,200 in 10:19.32, Adlai Gardner was 14th in the 400 in 50.84 seconds, and Timone Dolan was 16th in the 400 in 52.22.
Also on Thursday, Cael Canaan, Jayce Johnson, Andy Hernandez and Danny Lopez placed 15th in the 4x800-meter relay in 8:47.62.
On Friday, Gardner placed 14th in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles in 41.54 seconds.
DeLaCerda, Gardner, Lopez and Dolan qualified for the 4x400 relay finals in 3:27.51 on Friday. However, they were disqualified in the finals on Saturday.
For the Alamosa girls on Thursday, Timay Garcia tied for fourth place in the pole vault at 9-feet, 11-inches, and Braelyn Martinez tied for seventh in the same event at 8-11. Sylvia Daugherty was fifth in the 400 in 59.86 to qualify for Saturday’s final, however she false started in the final.
Brandi Garrison and Brooklyn Boehm both competed in the discus on Thursday with Garrison finishing in sixth at 113-2, and Boehm placed ninth in the 106-4.
In relays, Mariah Sheffield, Bella Hoover, Zale’Briel Smart and Daugherty took sixth in the 4x200 in 1:46.62 to qualify for the finals. In the 4x800, Olivia Formisano, Hannah DeLaCerda, Isabella Estrada and Braelyn Cisneros finished 11th in the 4x800 in 10:23.75.
On Friday, Brooklyn Boehm took eighth place in the shot put at 33-2 ¾ to place in two events.
Sheffield, Hoover, Smart and Daugherty finished sixth in the 4x200 final in 1:47.28.
In another relay, Sheffield, Hoover, Daelyn Jackson and Daugherty placed ninth in the 4x400 in 4:11.93 to qualify for the finals. However, they were DQ’ed in the finals.
On Saturday, Jackson competed in the high jump but did not record a height.
The Alamosa boys scored nine points while the Mean Moose girls scored 17.
Centauri
On Thursday, Dallyn King competed in all three sprint preliminaries and qualified for the finals in two of them. He was sixth in the 200-meter dash in 22.12 seconds, seventh in the 400 in 49.62, and 13th in the 100 in 11.22.
On Saturday, King was seventh in the 400 in 49.71, and ninth in the 200 in 22.63.
Also on Thursday, the team of Bailey Graber, McKenzie Torres, Macy McCarroll and Genesi Morris were sixth in the 4x800 in 10:15.10, and Brooklyn Shawcroft tied for seventh in the pole vault. 8-11
On Saturday, Blake Johnson finished third in the shot put at 49-2 ¾.
Three Falcons competed in the high jump with Analyn Dwyer and Alyvia Norton both tied for fifth at 5-1, and Sydney Haslett tied for 13th at 4-9.
Both the Falcon boys and girls scored 11 points in their respective meets.
Unified
Alamosa’s Matthew Hollingsworth completed in four events in unified competition. On Thursday, Hollingsworth was third in the 100 in 14.07, and second in the 200 in 29.67. On Friday, he was third in the long jump at 13-5 and fourth in the discus at 58-11.
