ALAMOSA — The Adams State University “High School Mixed Choir Festival,” a prestigious event, returns on Feb. 20-22. It features some of the finest high school choral musicians in the Southwest, including both an auditioned (symphonic choir) and director-recommended choir (concert choir).
The event, eagerly anticipated, is held over three days, beginning on Thursday morning and culminating in a concert on Saturday afternoon at Sacred Heart Church in Alamosa.
According to Beth Robison, Director of Choral Activities at ASU, the choral program, a proud Adams State tradition for over 30 years, is going strong and continues to thrive.
When the choirs were in Alamosa last year, Robison told the Valley Courier, "This is an opportunity for students from around the state to come to ASU. We have two choirs. One is an audition choir, and they submit an audition and are accepted that way. The other is a director-recommended choir, so it is an opportunity for choir directors to recommend their students to be involved in this experience."
The concert in 2024 at Sacred Heart Church, had over 370 in attendance and was standing room only. The choirs performed sublimely, and the superb acoustics of the church added to a moving and breathtaking experience.
The festival will feature Guest Conductors Dr. Heather Roberson from Iowa Western Community College and Jeff Peckman, a choir director and voice instructor with over 20 years of experience.
The choral concert is on Saturday afternoon on Feb. 22 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Alamosa from 2 to 3 p.m. The church is at 715 Fourth St., Alamosa.
