ALAMOSA – Five high school football teams from the San Luis Valley earned berths into their respective state playoffs as the Colorado High School Activities Association released the brackets on Sunday.
The brackets are posted on the CHSAANow.com web site.
In Class 2A, Alamosa (6-3) is the 15th seed and it will travel to Wellington which is north of Fort Collins. The Eagles are the second seed and are undefeated in nine games. They also won the Class 2A North League which includes two other playoff teams in Resurrection Christian and Eaton.
Kickoff is at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
Two local schools will compete in the Class 1A state playoffs.
Centauri (8-1) is the fourth seed and it will take on 13th-seeded North Fork. The Miners are the 13th seed and have a 6-3 record and are 3-1 in the Western Slope League. North Fork was edged for the league title by Meeker.
The game will take place on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. at the CHS Field.
Monte Vista (6-3) is the 10th seed and it will travel to Colorado Springs to face Colorado Springs Christian. The Lions are seeded seventh and have a 6-3 record. They took second in the Class 1A Tri-Peaks League with a 3-1 record and their only league loss was to top-ranked Buena Vista.
The contest will be played on Friday at the UCCS Mountain Lion Stadium with kickoff scheduled. For 6 p.m.
In eight-man football, Sanford (8-1) is the fourth seed and it will host 13th-seeded Las Animas. The Trojans have a 7-2 record and took second in Santa Fe League with a 4-1 record, losing only to third-seeded McClave.
Kickoff is Saturday at 1 p.m. at the SHS field.
Eighth-seeded Sierra Grande (9-1) will play in the six-man playoffs and it will host Granada (6-3). The Bobcats were third in the High Plains League at 3-2, losing only to third-seeded Cheyenne Wells and sixth-seeded Eads.
The game will take place Saturday at noon at the SGHS field.
