MONTE VISTA – The Monte Vista High School track and field program hosted its annual last chance meet Friday at Harvey Sullivan Field. Several track athletes came to the meet in an effort to qualify for the state meet or improve their rankings.
Qualifying at the meet were Alamosa’s Brooklyn Boehm in the Class 3A girls discus, Center’s Becklynn Bogner in the Class 2A girls 300-meter intermediate hurdles, Monte Vista’s John Jake Naranjo in the Class 2A boys discus, Monte Vista’s Olyvia Wofford in the Class 2A girls 100-meter high hurdles, Creede’s Paisley Anderson in the Class 1A girls high jump, Creede’s Ava Mankowski in the Class 1A girls 300 hurdles, Moffat’s Chase Shelabarger in the Class 1A boys shot put, and Sangre de Cristo’s Taylor Freel in the Class 1A girls discus.
The Center girls 4x200-meter relay also qualified.
Alamosa
Brooklyn Boehm has already qualified in the shot put and she took first in the event at 31-10. Her discus mark of 106 10 ½ was good for second place behind Brandi Garrison who won at 117-3 ¼. Garrison also qualified in the discus earlier this season.
Other Mean Moose performances included Alicia Gonzalez winning the triple jump at31-11 and placing third in the long jump at 15-9. Alexis Gay was seventh in the discus at 91-8, and Gizelle Meraz was eighth in the shot put at 27-2.
For the Alamosa boys, Teddy Matson won the 110 hurdles in 18.03 and was fourth in the 300 hurdles in 51.85, Braydon Sieczkowski was second in the high jump at 5-6, Jaiden Cranson was fifth in the high jump at 4-10, Brandon Lewis was fifth in the 400-meter dash in 57.08 seconds, and Alexander Diego-Pablo was sixth in the 200 in 24.72 and eighth in the 100 in 11.96.
Antonito
The Trojans had only one scorer in Dean Garcia who was second in the 3,200 in 13:29.60.
Centauri
The Falcon boys had two placers in Mason Weyers who was third in the 1,600 in 5:33.55 and fourth in the 110 hurdles in 19.49, and Sage Harmsen who was seventh in the 110 hurdles in 22.40 and eighth in the 300 hurdles in 58.16.
For the Centauri girls, Lilyana Gutierrez was fourth in the shot put at 28-1 ½, Elena Reed was fifth in the 400 in 1:18.45, Kortney Johnson was sixth in the 100 hurdles in 22.94, and Sienna Taylor was sixth in the triple jump at 27-5.
The Falcons were also fourth in the girls 4x100 relay in 58.94.
Centennial
The Rams had one placer in Rowan Hubbard who was fifth in the 100 hurdles in 21.31.
They also placed fifth in the 4x100 in 1:07.45.
Center
Placing for the Center boys were Dahir Ornelas who was second in the 1,600 in 5:32.70, Anjel Palma who was second in the triple jump at 38-11 ¾, Romeo Villagomez who was second in the 800 in 2:31.71, Yanixan Padilla who was third in the long jump at 19-5 and fourth in the triple jump at 36-9, Jairo Lino who was fourth in the 800 in 2:46.93 and eighth in the 1,600 in 5:14.14, Kevin Tomas-Lopez who was sixth in the 800 in 2:51.54, sixth in the 1,600 in 5:57.91 and seventh in the discus at 100-10 ½, Michael Archuleta who was seventh in the 400 in 58.26, Cristian Badachi who was seventh in the long jump at 17-7 ¼, Frankie Garcia who was seventh in the 100 in 11.94, seventh in the 200 in 24.99 and eighth in the 400 in 58.50, and Derriq Thompson who was eighth in the discus at 100-4 ½.
The Vikings also won the 4x800 in 11:04.79.
The Center girls were led by Bogner who won the 300 hurdles in 49.00, and Nayeli Pablo who won the 1,600 in 7:01.15 and was third in the 800 in 3:09.79.
Also placing for the Vikings were Oceana Garcia who was second in the 100 in 13.31, Jaylah Martinez who was second in the 800 in 2:48.88, Emiliana Valdez who was second in the shot put at 30-6 and fourth in the discus at 97 11 ¼. Lavine Casas who was third in the 1,600 in 8:21.57 and fifth in the 800 in 3:22.55, Maya Swanson who was third in the triple jump at 30-11 ¼ and tied for seventh in the long jump at 13-7 ½, Eymy Bustillo who was fourth in the 400 in 1:14.40, Veronica Gregorio who was fourth in the 1,600 in 10:24.10, Landry Neufeld who was fourth in the 100 hurdles in 19.11, Alyciana Lujan who was sixth in the 200 in 28.77 and seventh in the 100 in 13.85, and Sofia Valdez who tied for sixth in the shot put at 27-3 and was eighth in the discus at 79-3.
The Center girls placed in all four relays including wins in the 4x100 in 52.48, the 4x400 in 4:24.55, and the 4x800 in 12:56.61. They were second in the 4x200 in 1:48.96.
Creede
The Miners were led by Charlie Heinrich who won the 300 hurdles in 43.19.
For the Creede girls, Anderson won the high jump at 4-10 and was fifth in the shot put at 27-5, and Mankowski was third in the 300 hurdles in 50.00, third in the shot put at 29-8 ½ and fifth in the discus at 96-8 ½.
Moffat
The Cowboys were led by Chase Shellabarger who won the shot put at 43-8 ½ and was fifth in the discus at 111-9 ½.
Also placing for the Moffat boys were Cashel Johnson who was second in the discus at 125-10 ½ and fourth in the shot put at 37-9, Javad Taylor who was second in the 100 in 11.55, second in the 200 in 23.95 and eighth in the long jump at 17-6 ¾, Diego Fries who was third in the 400 in 54.67, Shotaro Siago who was fifth in the 110 hurdles in 20.08 and sixth in the 300 hurdles in 53.13, and Ezekiel Fontenot who was seventh in the shot put at 36-6.
The Cowboys also won the 4x400 in 4:17.09.
For the Moffat girls, Kandra Pollard won the long jump at 17-0, was third in the 200 in 27.58 and fourth in the 100 in 13.38, Shauna Pollard was second in the 400 in 57.48 and eighth in the 100 in 13.96, and Bellla Cohen who was third in the 400 in 1:09.09.
Moffat was second in the girls 4x400 in 4:35.65.
Monte Vista
The Pirates won three championships with Naranjo winning the discus at 133-0 ¼, Haven Heredia winning the 1,600 in 5:30.91, and Azariah Hurtado winning the 100 in 11.15. Heredia was also fifth in the 300 hurdles in 53.02, and Naranjo was sixth in the shot put at 37-0 ½.
Also scoring for the Monte Vista boys were Mason Mondragon who was second in the shot put at 39-8 ½ and third in the discus at 118-7, Johnathan Samora who was second in the 400 in 54.60, Cristian Hernandez who was second in the 110 hurdles in 18.13 and second in the long jump at 19-`10 ¾, Ezaiah Archuleta who was third in the 110 hurdles in 18.72, third in the triple jump at 37-8 and fourth in the long jump at18-8 ¾, Nehemiah Sarinana-Sandoval who was third in the 100 in 11.56, William Walker who was third in the 800 in 2:33.99 and fourth in the 1,600 in 5:42.36, Jeremiah McComas who was fourth in the 100 in 11.69, Bryson Paulson who was fourth in the 400 in 56.92 and fifth in the 200 in 24.71, Xzavion DeHerrera who was sixth in the discus at 110 9 ½, and Daniel Mascarenas who was sixth in the 400 in 57.69.
The Pirates also won the 4x100 in 45.04 and the 4x200 in 1:33.22.
Wofford led the Monte Vista girls by winning the 100 hurdles in 17.50. Also placing for the Pirates were Elena Baumgardner who was second in the triple jump at 31-3 ¼, Shae Romero who was second in the 200 in 26.37, Reminee Mascarenas who was third in the 100 in 13.33, and Anahi Murietta who was seventh in the, 200 in 28.89.
The Pirates also won the girls 4x200 in 1:48.55.
Sanford
Leading the Mustangs were Kaulen Miller who won the high jump at 5-8, and Jono Peterson who won the 800 in 2:27.97 and the 3,200 in 12:40.77. Pegterson was also fifth in the 1,600 in 5:45.75.
Other Sanford boys scorers were Blake Miller who was second in the 300 hurdles in 44.99, Jayden Fairhurst who was third in the 300 hurdles in 50.78, fourth in the high jump at 5-2 and sixth in the 110 hurdles in 21.20, Huntley Duran who was fourth in the 200 in 24.43 and sixth in the 100 in 11.87, Clay Willet who was seventh in the triple jump at 34-2, Ryan McCarroll who was seventh in the 300 hurdles in 56.19 and eighth in the 110 hurdles in 22.51,and Ryan Cordova who was eighth in the shot put at 36-1.
The Mustangs took second in three relays – the 4x100 in 47.44, the 4x200 in 1:39.64, and the 4x400 in 4:37.81.
For the Sanford girls, Natalya Madril was second in the 1,600 in 7:22.85 and fourth in the 800 in 3:24.03, Bella Peterson was fifth in the 200 in 28.76, Claire Crowther was sixth in the discus at 95-6, Kasey Gylling was sixth in the 100 in 13.81, Julia Reynolds tied for sixth in the shot put at 27-3, and Ayanah Valdez was sixth in the 800 at 3:40.13.
The Mustangs also placed second in the 4x100 in 54.78, and third in the 4x200 in 1:54.23.
Sangre de Cristo
Leading the Thunderbird boys were Brody Artaechevarria who won the 400 in 53.25, and Joe Brown who was third in the shot put at 38-8 and fourth in the discus at 115-4 ½.
For the Sangre girls, Freel was third in the discus at 103-4 ¾ and Rorie Tillman was seventh in the triple jump at 25-6 ¾.
Sierra Grande
The Panthers were led by Rolando Najera who won the long jump at 20-5 and the triple jump at 40-3 ¼. He was also third in the 200 in 24.43.
Other Sierra Grande boys placers were Aden Gallegos who was fifth in the long jump at 18-5 ¾, and fifth in the triple jump at 34-8 ½, and Daylan Santillano who was sixth in the long jump at 18-1.
The Panthers were third in two relays – the 4x100 in 52.06, and the 4x200 in 1:50.98.
For the Sierra Grande girls, Eneria Quintana was fourth in the long jump at 15-1, and Emma Laugen was sixth in the long jump at 13-8.
The Sierra Grande girls were third in the 4x100 in 58.03.
State is next
The CHSAA State Track and Field Championships will begin Thursday and end Saturday at Jefferson County Stadium in Lakewood.
