ALAMOSA - The annual Alamosa Round-UP had its first performance on Friday evening, and the second on Saturday at the rodeo grounds.
In the rough stock events, the cowboys had the advantage over the broncs, while the bulls domintated in their event.
In bareback riding, Creede Guardamondo of Avondale took the lead on Friday with an 80 1/2-point ride on No Bueno. Jacoby Campbell of Brighton was second with 70 points on Mississippi Squirrel.
Guardamondo’s lead didn’t hold up as Monte Downare of Hartel scored 81 1/2 points on Mama Said. Guardamondo finished second, Stetson Bierman of Hidalgo, Ill., was third with a 73-point ride on Miss Bay Monster, and Campbell finished fourth.
In saddle bronc riding, Joe Priebe of Cody, Wyo., took the lead on Friday with a 75-point ride on High Cotton. However, he finished third overall as Tejay Angland from Australia won with an 87-point ride on Wolverine, and Jase Stout of Bayfield was second with 76 points on Signature. Both rides were on Saturday
Jake Schlattman of Greybull, Wyo., finished in fourth place with 73 points on Mexican Hat on Friday.
The permit section of bareback riding was won by Garrett Blackwell of Yeso, N.M., with 74 points on The Traveler on Friday. Dalton Williams of Loveland was second with 69 points on Sir Grit, and Jacoby Campbell of Brighton was third with 63 points on Lucky Bug.
There were no qualified rides on Saturday.
In the permit section of saddle bronc riding, Tag Moses of Keenesburg won with 73 1/2 points on Last of My Kind on Friday. Also on Friday, Josue Molina of Juarez, Mexico, was second with 73 points on Buckle Bunny.
Mitchell Story of Bayfield finished in third place with 70 1/2 points on Prodical Son on Saturday. Brody Baca of Weatherford, Texas, finished in fourth place with 69 1/2 points on Roan Ranger on Friday.
The bull riding saw the bulls go undefeated as they bucked off 14 different riders over the two days.
The timed events saw some participants win on Saturday, while others held on to their leads which were set on Friday.
In steer wrestling, Kyle Broce of Cheraw took the lead with 4.8 seconds on Friday. That time held up through the rest of the rodeo.
Cayden Schiulz of Alamosa came close on Saturday, but finished with a time of 6.4 seconds for a second-place finish. Brady Buum of Keenesburg was third in 6.7 second also on Saturday, and Cody Pratt of Pueblo was fourth in 6.8 seconds on Friday.
In tie-down roping, Ryan Belew of La Junta took the lead in 11.4 seconds in the Friday slack. However, Rodney Jackson of Angleton, Texas, surpassed that time with a 9.2-second run on Friday. That would last through the rest of the rodeo.
Dean Holyan of Coyote Canyon, N.M., finished in second place in 10.3 seconds on Saturday. Kalai Nobriga of Kealakekua, Hawaii, finished in third place in 11.1, and Belew finished in fourth place.
Team roping saw the top three times from the Friday slack hold up. Roan Oldfield and Pace Blanchard won in 4.8 seconds, Bridger Ketcham and John Hisel were second in 6.4, and Nobriga and Kyon Cluff of Florence were third in 6.7.
Finishing fourth were Braden Fillmore of Pueblo, and Cody Lansing of Cortez with a time of 7.5 seconds on Saturday.
In ladies barrel racing, Bittany Fellows of Weatherford, Texas, took the lead with a time of 17.56 seconds in the Friday slack. But once again, the time didn’t hold up as Taryn Boxleitner of Loveland had a run of 17.26 seconds on Friday evening. Lake Mehalec of Marana, Ariz., was second in 17.47 on Saturday, Mackenzie McCuistion of Estes Park finsihed third in 17.52 on Friday evening, and Fellows took fourth place.
The local barrel racing competition saw Gracie Wilson of Center take the lead in 18.95 seconds on GOH Slicks Fiesta. But Maddison Bays of Fairplay won with a time of 18.78 on Fancy on Saturday.
Wilson finished second, Rosemary Egolf of Alamosa was third in 19.01 on Maxine, and Jaelie Jaminet, also of Alamosa, was fourth in 19.03 on Sue.
The finals of the mutton bustin’ took place on Friday amd Saturday evenings.
The 4- and 5-year-olds had their final on Friday. In the 4-year-old division, Hank Day won with 80 points, followed by Ryan Bauer with 77, Ellanora O’Dell with 72, and Hudson Ward was fourth.
The 5-year-old division was won by Lynnlee Claunch with 85 points, followed by Gabby Salas with 80, Aiden McCormick with 74, and Lailah Vigil with 73.
The 6- and 7- year-olds ran on Saturday. The 6-year-old division was won by Zane Canty with 98 points, followed by Kallahan Smith with 82, and Jude Romero and Ruby Day both with 81 1/2.
Winning the 7-year-old division was Bennett McDaniel with 96 points. Javielynn Archuleta was second with 90, Dawson Romero was third with 89, and Cassidy Wright was fourth with 88 1/2.
