CENTER – The Alamosa High School girls soccer team suffered a rough loss on Thursday at Mullen. But the Mean Moose recovered nicely as they defeated Lamar, 3-0, Saturday at Center High School’s field.
“I’m super proud of the girls today,” said Alamosa coach Kelly Wubben. “They played hard. They were passing, they were finishing, they played a really good tough game.”
Jayden Wubben gave the Mean Moose the lead in the 14th minute as she but a direct kick into the Lamar goal.
Araceli Molina increased the lead to 2-0 off a Ginger Rockcastle assist in the 36th minute.
The lead remained 2-0 at halftime.
Alamosa scored a goal in the 71st minute as Leah Higareda scored off a Jayden Wubben assist.
Alamosa outshot the Thunder 11-4. Freshman goalkeeper Kylie Cantu recorded her second shutout of the season with four saves.
Alamosa (3-1) will open Intermountain League play on Friday as it will host Montezuma-Cortez. The game has been moved to Del Norte with the opening kickoff slated for 3 p.m.
“That’s going to be another tough game,” coach Wubben said. “So I told my girls to rest their bodies and get ready, because that will be another tough game.”
