ALAMOSA – The Alamosa High School baseball team won its first round Class 3A Region 5 game against Kent Denver, 13-6, but lost to The Classical Academy, 9-3, Saturday in Colorado Springs.
The Mean Moose scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning against Kent Denver, but the Sun Devils tied the score in the top of the third. Alamosa scored three runs in the fourth and four in the fifth before Kent Denver scored four times in the sixth. The Mean Moose matched that run total in the bottom of the sixth.
Jonah Pittman was the winning pitcher and he gave up two runs and two hits and he struck out four and walked three. Evan Anderson pitched the final three innings and allowed four runs and four hits with two strikeouts and three walkS.
Alamosa had 15 hits and was led by Pittman who went 4-4 with three RBIs, Tony Griego who went 3-4 with a double and four RBIs, Nelson Arambula who went 2-4 with a double and one RBI, Brennan Maez who went 2-4, and Camdyn Montoya who went 2-4 with one RBI.
The Mean Moose scored a run in the top of the first against TCA, but the Titans scored twice in their half of the innings. Alamosa scored twice in the second to regain the lead, however, TCA scored five runs in the fourth and a run in the fifth and sixth innings.
Griego started on the mound and he took the loss. He allowed nine runs and eight hits with one strikeout and three walks. Maez finished the game and gave up no runs and one hit with no strikeouts and one walk.
The Mean Moose scattered three hits with Arambula and Maez both going 1-2, and Pittman going 1-3.
Alamosa’s final record was 15 wins and 10 losses.
Sanford loses to Limon
The Sanford High School baseball team lost in the first round of the Class 2A Region 7 Tournament Saturday at Limon.
The Mustangs scored first with a run in the top of the third inning. However, the Badgers scored four times in their half of the inning.
Limon scored a run in both the fifth and sixth innings.
Sanford attempted a comeback in the top of the seventh, but it fell two runs short.
Trason Gartrell went the distance as Sanford’s pitcher and he took the loss. He allowed six runs and nine hits, while striking out five and walking five.
The Mustangs had four hits with Colton Reynolds, Gartrell, Rylan Mortensen and Lucas Miller each going 1-3. Mortensen also hit a two-run home run.
Sanford finished the season with a record of 12 wins and 11 losses.
