MONTE VISTA – The 10th-ranked Alamosa High School girls wrestling team defeated Monte Vista 30-24 Thursday at the MVHS gym.
“I was happy to see that they wrestled well,” said Alamosa coach Rusty Johnson. “That’s a good indication of a good team if they perform when they’re sick and they did. Monte wrestled tough and it was a very good dual.”
Only two matches took place on the mat. The rest were determined by forfeit.
Leah Pintor got the Lady Mean Moose going as she pinned Temperance Douglas in 1:21 at 100 pounds.
The Lady Pirates evened the score as Elena Baumgardner won by forfeit at 105. Kennedy Hillis put Alamosa back on top as she won by forfeit at 110.
At 115 pounds, Gizelle Meraz won by fall over Torrina Herrera in 3:32.
The Lady Mean Moose won the next two matches by forfeit with Samantha Maestas (120) and Shaya Martin (125) both getting victories and putting Alamosa up 30-6.
The Lady Pirates won the next three matches – all by forfeit. Kaliah Stucky (155), Malia Martinez-Castro (170) and Micaela Molin (190) all picked up wins.
Alamosa competed at the Canon City Invitational on Friday, and it competes at the Chatfield Invitational today. Monte Vista is at the Ignacio Invitational today.
