ALAMOSA – Adams State University Semillas de la Tierra will celebrate their ninth annual Baile de Primavera, or Spring Dance, at 6 p.m. Saturday, May 17, in Richardson Hall. The performance will feature two talented, local guest artists, Freddie Jaquez and Christian Santistevan.

Director of Semillas de la Tierra Domingo Estrada said the show is held in the spring to provide dancers two semesters to prepare. There are three main dance subgroups: beginners, intermediates, and adult/advanced, with a mix of experienced and new dancers in the subgroups, fostering a space for mentorship and technique.

Estrada says, “The show reflects the Mexican culture passed down from generation to generation through stories told via the art of dance.”

Adams State Alumni Herman, Ph.D., and Patsy Martinez established Semillas de la Tierra in 1973, providing students a sense of belonging. They expanded to the San Luis Valley community, and in 2005 young children were welcomed to learn the traditional dances.

Tickets are $15 adults, children $5, and free to AS&F, with ID, and are available at the door. For more information call or text 719-580-2891.
