MONTE VISTA - The first-ever Food Truck Rally in the Valley was held on May 31 at the Best Western Movie Manor and Star Drive in Monte Vista. Approximately 15 food trucks, and more than 15 vendors were set up for the free event.

The rally was held to help bring the community together, according to the organizers. Picnic tables were set up so people could sit down, socialize, and eat what they purchased from one of the food vendors.

In addition to the food, vendors were selling arts and crafts.

A booth was set up exclusively for face painting for children. Many children were smiling and laughing as they got their faces painted.

There were a variety of food truck offerings, including Mexican, barbecue, Hawaiian street eats, funnel cakes, ice cream, fudge, donuts, and hamburgers. There were also specialty drink vendors selling snow cones and sodas.

There was live music and a deejay playing fresh tunes.

Allie Givens, of Saguache, was at the event with her best friend, Jennifer Suazo. Both said they were enjoying the rally. Suazo said the food was good, and everyone seemed to be having a good time.

Cathy Salazar, of Alamosa, said it would be nice if an event like that could be held at least once a month.

“We all wanted the heat, and now that it's here, we just want our air conditioners and to stay home. If this was here monthly, I would definitely jump at the chance to come, hot or not, there’s ice cold drinks here. There’s good food, good friends, and just good fun,” she said.
