Rio Grande National Forest fire personnel will conduct a prescribed burn in Taylor Canyon, in Saguache County Friday, Sept. 13. The Buffalo Pass burn is 270-acres. Ignitions will begin around 10 a.m. All ignitions will be completed on Friday. Smoke may be visible in the area and crews will continue to monitor the burn until significant moisture occurs.
As part of Great Sand Dunes National Park’s hazardous fuels reduction efforts, fire managers from the park in partnership with Rio Grande National Forest are preparing to conduct a prescribed burn on up to 3,300 acres near the park’s northern boundary. The project area is located south of Baca Grande and approximately three miles south of Crestone.
