Letter to Editor: MVFD thanks community for support, prepares for annual chili supper

Editor,

The Monte Vista Fire Department would first and foremost like to send our sincere condolences to those who were affected by the fire that struck our community this spring. While this tragedy rocked our district to its core, our town once again came together and faced adversity head on. With the continued support of the district, community and surrounding emergency agencies, the Monte Vista Fire Protection District continues to be committed to offering the public the best service possible.

Last year your contributions helped us reach our goal in purchasing a battery-powered chainsaw with vent master attachment, two battery-powered fans for efficient ventilation applications and two thermal cameras to aid in zero-visibility rescue and fire operations. This year with your help we hope to reach our goal of purchasing cribbing and struts used in auto extrication, and also purchasing an LED marquee sign to provide the community with up-to-date emergency information. We kindly ask for your support in meeting this goal.

The Monte Vista Fire Department is a volunteer organization with 20 volunteers. This year our department has already responded to over 250 calls and participated in 1,500 combined training hours. The MVFD continues to respond to structure fires, fire alarms, car accidents, grass fires and gas leaks. The department also works together with other San Luis Valley fire departments when called on for mutual aid.

In closing, please join us for our annual chili supper. Every firefighter looks forward to interacting with those that we serve and being a gathering place for our community is something we truly cherish. We look forward to seeing our friends, our families, and our community on Nov. 12 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the firehouse.

The Monte Vista Fire Department would like to thank you for your continued support.
