ALAMOSA – The Monte Vista High School boys golf team began the 2024 season on Monday as it competed at the Swink Invitational at the La Junta Municipal Golf Course.
The Pirates won the tournament with a score of 224. They finished far ahead of second place Salida with 242, and the host team with 243.
Monte Vista was led by Kaden Mellott and Connor Mellott who both tied for third place with a 73. Liam Ellithorpe tied for eighth with a 78, and Jakoby Ross tied for 12th with an 82.
Las Animas’ Damian Baca was the medalist with a four-under-par 68.
Monte Vista will remain in the Arkansas Valley for the Fowler Invitational today at the Cottonwood Links. Del Norte is scheduled to open its season at Fowler.
All three San Luis Valley schools will compete at the Alamosa Invitational Friday at Cattails Golf Course.
