ALAMOSA — The season came to an end for four San Luis Valley football teams on Saturday as all were defeated in quarterfinal state playoff action.
Delta 37, Alamosa 8
DELTA — Top-seeded Delta ended eighth-seeded Alamosa’s season with a 37-8 victory. The Panther led 10-0 after the first quarter, but the Mean Moose closed to within 10-8 at halftime.
The second half was all Delta as it increased its lead to 23-8 after the third quarter. The Panthers scored two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter.
Kasey Jones completed 20 of 35 passes for 230 yards and one touchdown. His twin brother, Kade, had six receptions for 67 yards, and Brant Jackson had six for 55 yards and a touchdown. Karter Tolsma had four receptions for 50 yards, and Jace Quintana had three for 43 yards.
R.J. Meis led the Mean Moose in rushing with 38 yards on 11 carries. The Mean Moose finished the season with a record of seven wins and four losses.
Strasburg 37, Centauri 0
STRASBURG — It was a rough finish to the season for the seventh-seeded Centauri High School football team as it was defeated by second-seeded Strasburg 37-0 Saturday at Winter Field.
Centauri managed only 182 yards of total offense. Leighton Curtis completed 12 of 27 passes for 164 yards. Thomas was his top receiver with four catches for 36 yards. Dylan Vasquez had two receptions for 47 yards, Chaz Holman had two for 41 yards, Kiler Ullery had two for 22 yards, and Ace Martinez had two for 18 yards.
The Falcons had only 18 total yards rushing. Stockebrand was the leading ground gainer with 22 yards on 18 carries.
Another highlight for the Falcons was Jace Hasley who punted seven times for a 41.1-yard average.
Strasburg had 562 total yards — 425 rushing and 137 passing. The Indians had two 100-yard rushers as Marrero ran for 279 yards on 25 carries, and Thomas Devlin had 101 yards on 17 carries.
Centauri finished the season with eight wins and three losses.
Limon 50, Monte Vista 20
LIMON — The eighth-seeded Monte Vista High School football team also faced a top-seeded team in Limon at Lloyd Gaskill Field.
The Badgers got off to a strong start as they led 21-0 after the first quarter. They had a 36-6 lead at halftime, and they led 50-6 after the third quarter.
The Pirates managed to score two touchdowns in the fourth quarter.
Khegan Gunter led the Pirates as he ran for 82 yards on 17 carries and he scored two touchdowns. Andrew Chavez completed 11 of 18 passes for 86 yards and one touchdown. Gunter was also the leading receiver with five catches for nine yards and one touchdown. Addan Heredia had three receptions for 18 yards.
The Pirates had a final record of nine wins and two losses.
Haxtun 62, Sanford 14
HAXTUN — The eighth-seeded Sanford High School football team also had a tough opponent in top-seeded Haxtun with the Fightin’ Bulldogs defeating the Mustangs 62-14.
Haxtun led 34-0 after the first quarter, 46-8 at halftime, and 54-6 after the third quarter. Statistics for Sanford were unavailable. Sanford’s final record was seven wins and four losses.
