Ralph Jerald “Jerry” Post Passed away April 15, 2020, of complications from COVID. He was born in Walsenburg, Colo., on Nov. 28, 1926, to Ralph and Laura (Stuckey) Pospahala. He spent his childhood along with his younger sister Shirley, in Monte Vista, Colo., where his mother taught school and his father ran a filling station and used furniture store.
After graduating from Monte Vista High School, he enlisted in the Navy where he proudly served as a Radarman aboard the USS Pierce in the Pacific during the end of WWII. He attended Adams State College for a year before transferring to Denver University where he earned his business degree in 1950.
In 1956 he married Jeanine “Nini” Wortman and in 1957 they had their son, Doug. They spent the next 56 years in their Denver home where Jerry had a long career as a Sales Representative and Territory Manager with Johns Manville and later, Pipeline Accessories Corporation. He sold water and sewer pipe for large-scale construction projects such as the Snowmass and Vail developments. His friendly and understated demeanor as well as his loyalty and a great sense of humor made Jerry a successful salesman and a great friend.
Active in his community, Jerry served two years as a Second Lieutenant in the Air Force reserves. He was a member the American Legion, Elks Club, the Masonic Lodge and Kiwanis Club. He was a long-time Bronco fan and stayed in touch with his hometown by taking the Monte Vista Journal for his entire life.
The constant wellspring in Jerry and Nini’s 64-year marriage were their friends and family. He was a generous and supportive father, a caring husband, and a devoted grandfather. An extremely loyal and empathetic friend, he made a kept friendships in all parts of his life. Many people cite Jerry as being a big help to them when they needed it. In 2017 they moved to California to be closer to family. He missed his native Colorado but retained his devotion to family and gratitude for his life.
Jerry is preceded in death by his sister Shirley Killian and his parents, Ralph and Laura. He preceded his wife Nini in death. He leaves behind son Doug (Ellen) and grandchild Daniel of Los Angeles, Calif. He also leaves behind his niece, Colleen Ydo, her sons Ryan Ydo and Brad (Shelby) Killian, and nephew Gary (Louisa) Killian and their son Mike (April) Killian.
A celebration of life will be held for Jerry and his wife Nini at First Plymouth Congregational Church in Denver on Dec. 10, 2022, at 11 a.m. with a reception to follow.
