Hot Shots win Arby’s girls All-Star Game, 55-48

ALAMOSA – Three Hot Shots players scored in double figures as they defeated the Top Shots 55-48 in the 38th Annual Arby’s All-Star Game Friday at Adams State University’s Plachy Hall Gym.

The Hot Shots took an early 9-0 lead on baskets by Monte Vista’s Allessah Archuleta, Sanford’s Brooklynn Reynolds and Monte Vista’s Daylin Castro, along with a 3-point basket by Centauri’s Hannah Curtis. Del Norte’s Reese Brown put the Top Shots on the board, followed by baskets by Alamosa’s Morgan Ortega and Monte Vista’s Angeleigha Mora to cut the lead to 9-6.

Curtis drove for a layup, but Ortega split at the line, and Sanford’s Shasta Bond made a layup to reduce the deficit to 11-9. Curtis also split at the line, but Bond and Centauri’s Braelyn Tucker both scored to give the Top Shots a 13-12 lead.

Castro put the Hot Shots back into the lead, but Mora made a layup and later split a pair of free throws for a 16-14 Top Shots lead.

Reynolds tied the score, but Mora scored again. Centauri’s Jocelyn Jarvies and Curtis both scored for a 20-18 Hot Shots lead.

Sasha Dupont tied the score, but Curtis made one of two free throws twice, and she scored a layup and a three for a 27-20 Hot Shots lead at the half.

Jarvies increased the lead to 29-20 to open the second half, but Brown accounted for the Top Shots’ first points of the half. Curtis then drained another trey, and Reynolds drove for a layup. Archuleta made one of two from the line for a 35-22 Hot Shots lead.

Sangre de Cristo’s Haylee Freel ended the run and Center’s Presley Wilson also scored. Ortega then made two baskets and Tucker one as the Top Shots narrowed the lead to 35-32.

Archuleta buried a 3-pointer, and Curtis knocked down a jumper. Sierra Grande’s Jaelyn Quezada split at the line to reduce the deficit to 40-33.

Archuleta and Castro both made layups, but Wilson answered with a three. Archuleta made a layup, but Brown made one on the other end of the court. Archuleta sank a trey for a 49-38 lead.

Quezada drove for a layup, but Reynolds did the same. Mora and Bond both made layups and Wilson a three to cut the lead to 53-48. Curtis scored in the paint to wrap up the scoring.

Archuleta led the Hot Shots with 13 points, followed by Curtis with 11 and Reynolds with 10.

Mora was the Top Shots’ top scorer with 13 points, followed by Wilson with eight and Ortega with seven.

3-point contest

The 3-point shooting contest took place at halftime of the girls game. Centauri’s Jace Haslett was the boys champion and Curtis the girls champ. Haslett was the overall winner and Curtis was the runner-up.
