Denver Air Connection is growing

DENVER — Denver Air Connection (DAC), the airline that flies from Alamosa to Denver, has recently added new routes for its Denver hub.

DAC has grown since it began serving Alamosa in 2022 and now has 19 destinations. Since Nov. 1, the airline has picked up several new routes and, on Dec. 1, will add Chicago-Jackson, Tenn., to its growing scheduled flights.

Service to Alamosa is federally subsidized by the Essential Air Service. Earlier this year, under the terms of the subsidy, DAC will provide Alamosa with a total of 12 weekly nonstop round trips to Denver International Airport (DEN), using 30-seat Dornier 328 jet aircraft or 50-seat ERJ-145 aircraft, at a first-year annual subsidy of $5,679,884 and a second-year annual subsidy of $6,077,476.

At a meeting of the San Luis Valley Airport Advisory Board meeting on Nov. 14, airport manager Will Hickman announced that passenger traffic at the airport was over 9,000 and on target to be 10,000 this year. That threshold enables the airport to receive over $1 million in federal funding.

DAC also partners with United, Delta, and American Airlines, and passengers who fly to Denver can connect to any of those airlines' destinations worldwide. A quick check of flights from Alamosa to San Francisco showed several itineraries available on DAC and United. Several flights were available from Alamosa to Tampa on DAC on Delta, and flights from Alamosa to Dallas were available via DAC and American.

The online check-in policy for DAC flights is that it opens 24 hours before departure and ends 3 hours before departure.

Earlier this year, the Alamosa Airport began charging $6 daily to park there.
