SOUTH FORK – The Class 2A Region 4 cross country meet took place Friday at the Rio Grande Golf Club.
Del Norte High School had the most success of any of the San Luis Valley schools as the boys finished in fourth place and automatically qualified for the Class 2A State Meet.
On the girls side, two Lady Tigers also qualified for state.
The Tiger boys team scored 53 points and was led by Mads Kreutzer who finished in fifth place with a time of 18:16.1. Also scoring for the Tigers were Cruz Matta who was 15th in 19:33.7, Josiah Yocum who was 18th in 19:45.7, and Jax Lester who was 22nd in 20:04.07. Also racing for the Tigers were Corbin Horrocks who was 34th in 21:17.5, and Landon Crowder who was 42nd in 22:24.1.
For the Del Norte girls, Frannie Edelen and Madeline Mitchell both qualified. Edelen was fourth in 22:14.5, and Mitchell was 12th in 23:48.1.
Another Lady Tiger was Ella Cowett who was 24th in 26:43.8.
The Sierra Grande boys finished in sixth place with 142 points. The Panthers were led by Garrick Pettigrew who was 33rd in 21:10.3. Other Sierra Grande scorers were Daniel Rodriguez in 26:12.30, Kayo DeLeon in 53.52, Larsen Howard in 27:46.75, and Eugene Allart in 31:27.72.
Monte Vista was seventh in the boys competition with 145 points. Mathew Dean led the Pirates who was 46th in 23:39.4. He was followed by Nehemiah Espinoza in 24:47.85, Emilio Ortiz in 26:29.40, Kyler Lake in 28:10.96, and Robert Horner in 29:24.87.
The Monte Vista girls just missed qualifying for state as they were fifth with 76 points. Elazabeth Bradshaw led the Lady Pirates as she was 25th in 26:51.8, and Elena Baumgardner was 26th in 27:09.1. Also running for Monte Vista were Veronica Kincannon in 32:09.21, and Kaliah Stucky in 34:46.34.
Antonito was eighth in the boys meet with 146 points. Everett Holloway led the Trojans as he finished the course in 21:32.57, followed by Dean Garcia in 21:43.76, Nick Mondragon in 28:46.36, and Steven Velasquez in 29:06.67.
The Antonito girls were sixth with 101 points. The Lady Trojans were led by Alyssa Abyeta who was 28th in 27:38.2, and Neveah Cuellar who was 35th in 30:22.8. Also running for Antonito were Sophia Rendon in 31:31.27, Eliana Garcia in 33:45.29, and Anali Garcia in 35:49.67.
The Centennial boys finished ninth with 156 points. The Rams were led by Jose Molina in 22:26.61, Tyree Casias in 24:52.13, Dilano Bosch in 28:27.09, Amado Montoya in 29:27.43, Aaron Salcido in 24:49.60, and Michael Gonzales in 30:14.07.
The Center bopys were led by Andree Meraz who was 23rd in 20:07.5. Leading the Lady Viking was Anahlicia Villagomez who was 29th in 28:15.1.
Crested Butte was the boys champion, and Ridgway won the girls meet.
State meet is next
The Del Norte athletes will compete at the Class 2A State Meet next Saturday at the Norris Penrose Events Center in Colorado Springs. The boys will run at 1 p.m. and the girls at 2:20 p.m.
