ALAMOSA — In recent weeks, actions taken in major U.S. cities by agents with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) have raised questions about the role local law enforcement will play when ICE conducts large scale immigration arrests in local jurisdictions.  

SAN LUIS — After numerous delays over the last several years, the San Luis Peoples Market may be opening soon. 

HOOPER — Two bombs were found among the contents of a storage container in Hooper this week, prompting the Pueblo Police Department bomb squad and individuals with the U.S. Air Force to come to the site for detonation.  

ALAMOSA — Alamosa City Council had a somewhat shorter than usual meeting on Wednesday night as the agenda was largely devoted to wrapping up issues from previous meetings before taking on anything new. 

ALAMOSA — In continuation of its ongoing commitment to providing high quality health care, SLV Health recently unveiled its new 128 GE Signa Artist Evo 1.5T MRI, which they describe as “highly beneficial for SLV Health and our patients”. 

CENTER – A hearing that was scheduled for Feb. 4, has been postponed to Feb. 26 due to Center Town Trustee Bill McClure asking for and receiving an extension. 

MONTE VISTA — When Stephen Nicholson opened his keynote speech “Our Challenges and Opportunities: There is Much to Consider” at the Southern Rocky Mountain Agricultural Conference on Wednesday, he began with the challenges facing the San Luis Valley. He didn’t pull any punches. But no one in the room was caught by surprise, either. 

DENVER — The Colorado House passed legislation on Thursday to strengthen local fence construction laws in the San Luis Valley. HB25-1023 passed by a vote of 45-19.

ALAMOSA — The SLV Health Foundation has funded a new bladder scanner for the OB department in San Luis Valley Health’s Labor and Delivery Women’s Center, further enhancing patient care and efficiency. This essential piece of equipment, valued at approximately $10,000, was provided in December 2024 and is already improving services for women’s health. The funding for this scanner was made possible through a generous donation from the Premier Music Academy, led by Ms. Sandie Wehe, whose support continues to advance healthcare initiatives in the community. 

MONTE VISTA — Tyler Garrett, Director of Government Relations with the Rocky Mountain Farm Bureau, provided an information-packed update at Tuesday’s Southern Rocky Mountain Agriculture Conference and Trade Show in Monte Vista with a focus on legislation currently being considered in Colorado state government.

COLORADO SPRINGS —El Pomar Foundation Trustees approved $28,500 allocated to one nonprofit organization in the San Luis Valley region at the Foundation’s December Trustees meeting.

ALAMOSA — Results from the autopsy of a woman’s body who was found in Costilla County last week will likely not be made public for six weeks, says the Costilla County Coroner’s Office, adding that the El Paso County coroner is conducting the autopsy and the process, including compiling a written report, typically takes that long.  

CENTER – A disciplinary hearing for Center Town Trustee Bill McClure for using a racial slur toward a city employee was rescheduled to Feb. 4 after the charges filed against him were amended. The hearing was originally scheduled for Jan. 28. 

ALAMOSA — A 23-year-old man, later identified as Bobby Montoya of La Jara, allegedly entered the Big R in Alamosa on Thursday evening and stole two boxes of ammunition and a flashlight. He then brandished a gun when confronted by a store employee.  

RIO GRANDE COUNTY – The Rio Grande County Board of Commissions during its recent meeting released an official statement pertaining to the concerns about two key personnel that work for the county but live out of state.
