DEL NORTE – The Del Norte Chamber of Commerce met for their monthly meeting on Tuesday, March 25 to make a final decision for Denver and Rio Grande Caboose 580. Chamber President Paul Fennell opened the discussion to board members and the public while giving a background of the decision that was on the table. 

ALAMOSA — The public and former students or colleagues of long-time SLV music educator Linwood Warwick are cordially invited to join the SLV Community Band – either as a participating musician or as an audience member. This is for a tribute concert slated for Thursday, May 22, at 7 p.m. in ASU's Leon Memorial Hall. 

GREAT SAND DUNES NATIONAL PARK AND PRESERVE — April is a great time to be in the local national park before the summer rush.  Get outside and visit Great Sand Dunes and reflect on national parks and honor National Park Week and Appreciation Month. 

ALAMOSA — On Palm Sunday, April 13, in Richardson Hall on the campus of Adams State University at 5 p.m., voices from several choirs in the San Luis Valley will unite in harmony to sing praise.  

CRESTONE — The Crestone Energy Fair is excited to announce its Spring Home Tours, taking place in Crestone on April 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This event offers an intimate opportunity to explore some of Crestone’s most unique and innovative homes, with a focus on sustainable design, alternative building materials, and cutting-edge architecture. 

ALAMOSA — Muscle tension. Rapid heartbeat. Irritability. Trouble sleeping. Difficulty concentrating and forgetfulness. Feeling fearful, worried or restless with frequent mood swings, including bouts of depression. All of these symptoms are indications that a person is experiencing stress.   

The Alamosa County Commissioners paid tribute to Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve with this proclamation at their March 26 meeting for April as Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve Appreciation Month.

National Public Health Week was celebrated with Alamosa County Commissioners, Arlan Van Ry, and Lori Laske, Jody Kern (center), Public Health Department Director, and Commissioner Vern Heersink at the commissioners meeting on March 26.

FORT GARLAND — April is National Poetry Month, celebrate by joining Fort Garland for the 2nd annual Poetry and Posole event with renowned poet Bobby LeFebre. 

WOLF CREEK — The fun for the final week of the 2024-25 ski season gets underway Saturday, March 29, with JJ and The Hooligans playing live for the 85th Anniversary Ski Boot Dance. Music will be from 12 to 3 p.m. on the Upper Lodge Sundeck. The best moves will be awarded prizes. Snowboard boots are welcome also. 

ALAMOSA — For as long as she can remember, master quilter and fiber artist Bea Valdez Mansanarez has seen the world around her as a glorious collection of colors and shapes. A native of the Valley, she was born in 1932 and raised in a small place originally called “Los Valdezes” for her great-grandfather, Juan Pio Valdez who “fought in Lincoln’s war in 1864,” and donated the land for the town. 

ALAMOSA — About three years ago, through their connection with the Narrow Gauge Book Cooperative, Jean Alger and Allison Cruse began having conversations that quickly revealed several common traits. They were both creative and intelligent. They were both passionate about good books. They were both voracious readers. And they both had a vision of someday starting an independent press.  

SAN LUIS VALLEY — In March 1933, Franklin D. Roosevelt was elected president and took office during the Great Depression, a period of unprecedented hardship. At the time, a staggering 15.5 million Americans were unemployed, resulting in an alarming unemployment rate of 25 percent. The banking system had collapsed, and prices and productivity had plummeted to one-third of their pre-depression levels.  

ALAMOSA — Society Hall, 400 Ross Ave., Alamosa, is excited to feature Legendary folk pioneers the Limeliters on Saturday, March 29. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. with the show beginning at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 and are available online at www.societyhall.org or in Alamosa at The Green Spot, 711 State Ave. The concert will also stream live on the Society Hall Facebook page and You-Tube channel. 

GREAT SAND DUNES — The National Park Service at Great Sand Dunes is starting annual recruitment for volunteers for the 2025 spring, summer and fall season to assist with visitor safety, orientation, and information in the capacity of Preventative Search and Rescue (PSAR) duties. 

ALAMOSA — San Luis Valley Trout Unlimited would like to invite all interested individuals to join us at our monthly meeting at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 27, at the Alamosa Senior Center, 92 Colorado Ave., Alamosa.

CRESTONE – The Baca Grande Library is excited to announce that Peter Anderson will be reading from his newest book “Riding the Wheel,” a book of prose and poems, on Saturday April 5, beginning at 12 p.m. at the library, 67581 County Road T, Crestone.  

CRESTONE – Haley VanWalleghan is a bright 19-year-old girl who graduated from Crestone Charter Schools in May of 2024.  VanWalleghan was in a single-person car accident on Feb. 18. VanWalleghan’s injuries were devastating. According to her parents, VanWalleghan was flown to UC Health Memorial Hospital Central in Colorado Springs and immediately put in the Intensive Care Unit. VanWalleghan is recovering but has a long road ahead of her. 

ALAMOSA – Twenty years ago, Cathi Lucero joined the Adams State University staff as an administrative assistant. Since then, she advanced through various positions, earned her bachelor’s degree, and was recently named Director of Financial Aid.
