MONTE VISTA — The Monte Vista Chamber of Commerce along with the OptiMystics Citizen Action Network hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony for Valerie Larson Insurance Agency. Approximately 15 people attended the ceremony on Thursday, Feb. 15, at 126 Adams St.

Monte Vista Chamber of Commerce Manager Heather Hillin welcomed Larson and said, “We wish you all the best of luck with your business here.”

Hillin then handed Larson a big pair of scissors to cut the red ribbon in front of her business, and with a smile Larson cut the ribbon and everyone clapped and cheered.

Larson is no stranger to selling insurance, she has been in the industry for almost 15 years. She said her inspiration to open her own agency was independence.

“I decided to work for myself. It’s nice having the option to do what I need to do for my customers and be able to make my own decisions. It’s been a nice decision,” she said.

Larson offers commercial insurance, along with auto, home, and life insurance. She said that she can offer anything that someone needs.

“All of the clients that I have written insurance so far, have come to me because I have been able to save them money. That’s my big priority,” Larson said. “Also, if I look and I can’t save you money, I will tell you to stay where you are because you already have the best option for you. I am here to search and look for ways in which to save you money.”

Larson explained that is another part of being an agent that she really enjoys, is helping people find what is best for them, and helping to save them money.

“My favorite part of being an agent is the challenge,” she said. “The challenge of finding what people need. It’s the greatest feeling to see the smile on people’s faces when they walk out of the office, and they have saved money and have found exactly what they need. It feels good to help others like that.”

Larson enjoys working in Monte Vista because she is a native of Monte Vista.

“I live here in Monte Vista. I was raised here. I know everybody here and they know me,” she said. “My son and grandson live here. Most of my family is here. My sister-in-law works for the LOR Foundation. I am rooted here. I have also served on boards here. I love being able to help people here.”

Larson said with a smile that she felt great about her ribbon cutting ceremony and about receiving her plaque from the chamber.

“It feels great to be a member of the chamber and to be recognized as part of the chamber and the community,” she said.
