Sunflower Bank donates to local students and schools

Sunflower Bank Branch Manager Maria Aguilar and Sunflower Bank staff congratulate local school representatives and students for their academic success.

MONTE VISTA— Sunflower Bank of Monte Vista employees welcomed local students and staff last Wednesday evening to present awards and donations for their ABC Program. When customers open a new Sunflower Bank account the bank donates $50 to a school of the customer’s choice, and the customer earns an additional five cents for that school every time they swipe their debit card. The ABC Program also celebrates students’ academic excellence by awarding them with $10 per A grade on their report cards with the also bank matching that with a $10 donation to the student’s school.


Students receiving awards on Wednesday included Yareli Villa of Center, who received $50, Karicia Ceballos of Monte Vista High School who received $70, Kife Mashburn of Del Norte who received $80, Owen Stults of St. Peter’s Lutheran School who received $100 and Logan Futrell of Bill Metz Elementary who received $50.
Donations to local schools included $52.95 to the Center School District, $277.60 to Sargent Schools, $319.95 to Del Norte Schools, $105 for St. Peter’s Lutheran, $116.85 to Marsh School, $360.40 to Bill Metz Elementary, $150.65 to Monte Vista Middle School and $411.65 to Monte Vista High School. In total, the Monte Vista Branch of Sunflower Bank donated $2,145.05 to local schools and students for the 2018-2019 academic year and Sunflower Bank has donated 1.2 million dollars to school districts in the 18 years they have conducted the ABC Program.
