Sargent BOE shares meeting highlights

MONTE VISTA— The Sargent Board of Education held their monthly meeting on March 27 and announced the following highlights.
The board accepted the resignation of Superintendent Steven Marantino with appreciation for his service. Marantino is completing his fourth year with Sargent and will be retiring at the end of his current contract. The 2017-18 contracts for Elementary and Secondary Principals Joni Hemmerling and Ronna Cochran were approved. Employment of substitute teacher Lisa Robirds aas approved as were extra duty pay agreements for coaches Nate Burkhart, Roxi Carleo, Dax Malone and Don Scherden.
Policy revisions approved for a second reading and adoption included GBGG, Staff Leave and GDBA-E 2 and 3, Support Staff Salary Schedule (revised according to new minimum wage requirements).
Board approval was given to a budget resolution appropriating funds from the E-Rate Fund to the Capital Reserve/Capital Projects fund ($18,000) and to the Curriculum Reserve fund ($25,122).
The board also approved minutes of the previous meeting and financial reports for February, along with a requisition to Paxton Patterson for STEM curriculum and teacher training in the amount of $65,520.57.
The board discussed options for the purchase of a mini bus and Voice Over IP phone lines; in addition the superintendent search, consideration of establishing a high school wrestling program and methods of measuring success of the four-day week.
