Mountainfilm festival touring the valley

MONTE VISTA — Mountainfilm on tour made a stop in Monte Vista at the Vali 3 Theatre on Thursday night. The highly anticipated event was hosted by the Monte Vista Chamber of Commerce and Rio Grande Tourism.
Based in Telluride and founded in 1979, Mountainfilm is one of America’s longest-running film festivals. From August to May, Mountainfilm takes a selection of festival films on a worldwide tour. Both single-event and multi-day shows are presented and hosted by a wide array of organizations, including schools, colleges, corporations, community groups, and theater operators.


Mountainfilm on Tour features a collection of culturally rich, adventure-packed and enlightening documentary short films that align with Mountainfilm’s mission to use the power of film, art and ideas to inspire audiences to create a better world. 


During the tour, some 80,000 individuals view the films people every year in 180 locations worldwide. In Monte Vista, San Luis Valley Great Outdoors held a pre-show fundraiser in conjunction with the event. There was an open house and silent auction held at Rain Brews before the film showing shown. Some of the films presented included Brotherhood of Skiing directed by Tyler Wilkinson-Ray and Colin Arisman, Akuna directed by Jess Colquhoun, Danny Daycare by Stu Thomson, and Mi Mama’ directed by James Q Martin and Jade Begay. All ticket proceeds from the evening benefited SLVGO. The event was well-received by those who attended and deemed a success.
