Monte Vista schools opening Aug. 16

MONTE VISTA — The Monte Vista School District will soon be opening again for the start of the 2021-2022 school year, and people are wondering how COVID-19 protocols will be handled this year in the district.

Monte Vista School District administration and nurses announced they will be meeting with Rio Grande County Public Health officials the first week in August to discuss COVID-19 protocols and health guidelines.

The school stated that “although the information is coming in as short notice, it is the school’s hope that they will have a definite answer, close to the start of the year for everyone.”

Monte Vista schools resume on Monday, Aug. 16, with a couple of changes occurring in the district. A preschool is being built at the Marsh Elementary School location in Monte Vista.

The district stated it was excited about this change and feels it will draw more children to attend school sooner.

Another change that is occurring is a transportation administration building is also being built.
