Monte Vista National Night Out is Aug. 3

MONTE VISTA — Neighborhoods throughout Monte Vista are being invited to Chapman Park from 7 to 10 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 3, to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the 38th Annual National Night Out (NNO) crime and drug prevention event.

National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime efforts, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships, and send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

On Aug. 3, residents in neighborhoods throughout Monte Vista and across the nation are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police.

“This is an event for the community and police to spend the evening together and create a community police relationship that shows our criminals that we are working together to fight back against crime and drugs,” organizers stated.

The City of Monte Vista and the Monte Vista Police Department will provide hamburgers, hot dogs and refreshments at the event.

People will have the opportunity to mingle with law enforcement agencies from across Rio Grande County, the Monte Vista Fire Department, local EMS, and appointed and elected officials. There will be several activities for kids as well.
