MONTE VISTA—David Mascareñas, son of Jacqueline Mascareñas, signed to play basketball at Doane University in Crete, Neb. Mascareñas has received a full-ride scholarship to play as a guard on the basketball team at the university, where he plans on studying to become a physical therapist.
Mascareñas has played basketball since he was very young, and that love and dedication for the sport has obviously carried on all throughout his career. He has played on the high school varsity team from his freshman year, all the way to his senior year and has stood out as a leader on the team for just as long.
One of Mascareñas’ favorite memories from his time playing high school basketball, was during his junior year when he made a buzzer beater to beat Pagosa Springs. Along with this memory, Mascareñas is also proud of how far he has come in the sport.
Getting the opportunity to play college basketball is a huge accomplishment and he is extremely thankful for everyone who has supported him and helped him get where he is today. When asked what got him into basketball, Mascareñas answered simply, “Ball is life.”
