MONTE VISTA - Monte Vista Senior Levi Trujillo is this year’s recipient of the Gerald Vigil scholarship.

Trujillo plans to use the $1,000 scholarship this Fall. He will be attending Adam’s State where he will be majoring in Computer Science. The Gerald Vigil’s scholarship was started by his children as a way to honor their Father’s memory after he passed away. Higher education was always important to their father and so they had the idea to start a yearly scholarship in his name.

To be eligible for the scholarship, students must meet the following requirements: They must be a U.S. citizen, have a 3.0 or above GPA, complete an application, write an essay about their plans for the future, and 2 letters of recommendation must also be submitted.

According to the Vigil siblings, Levi Trujillo is the ideal candidate because he is hardworking and determined. Trujillo was involved in many extracurricular activities and worked during his high school years; all while keeping up with his school work. “We are certain he will succeed in college because he is driven and we wish him the best!”

For others who would like to help contribute to the scholarship fund, donations can be made to the Gerald Vigil Scholarship Fund at the San Luis Valley Federal Bank.
