James Larry Mitchell

James Larry Mitchell, 79, of South Fork, Colo., passed away on June 3rd, 2022, with his loving wife by his side.

James was born March 5, 1943, in Corsicana, Texas, born to W.B. and Geneva Mitchell. James entered the Air Force in 1964 and retired in 1992, earning the rank of Command Sergeant.

James met Roseline in Fort Worth Texas, while he was in the military. They married in 1964 and had two sons, Jerry and Barry.

James and Rosalyn moved to South Fork, Colo., in 1992.

James was a retired Command Sergeant of the US Air Force, a Vietnam and Desert Storm veteran, past State Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, member of VFW Post 8121, Past Master of Del Norte Masonic Lodge No. 105, Member of Amethyst Masonic Lodge No. 94 in Creede, 32 Degree Scottish Rite, in the shrine with Al Kaly Shrine, Order Eastern Star Bethlehem Chapter 56 and past Grand Commander Military Order Cooties (MOCA).

James liked traveling, rock tumbling, fishing, hunting, golfing, and reading

James was preceded in death by his father and mother.

He is survived by his son Jerry (Tracy) Mitchell and Berry (Shelly) Mitchell and grandchildren Faith and Jake Mitchell.

A viewing will be held Thursday, June 9, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Strohmayer’s Funeral Home in Monte Vista, 205 S. Broadway St.

Interment will be at the Homelake Veteran Cemetery on Friday, June 10, 2022, at 10 a.m., with full military honors.
