Host Farmers defeat Center in league face-off

MONTE VISTA— On a night that the Farmers were clad in pink for breast cancer awareness they knocked off Center three sets to none.
In remembrance of Stephanie L. Miner, a former teacher who passed away Oct. 23 2003, Sargent donned pink uniforms. The Farmers also pledged to their Kills for a Cure, the proceeds benefitting the Stephanie L. Miner Imaging Center at San Luis Valley Health in Alamosa. This is also a special cause to the Center Vikings as their head coach Madison Miner is Stephanie’s daughter.
The first set was all Sargent, the Farmers closed it out quickly by a score of 25-8, then Center woke up.
The second set went back and forth with the two teams trading leads. After the two teams tied at 18 it was a fresh match and a race to the game point. Center failed to do anything with their three serves while Sargent collected the final seven points to finalize set two at 25-21. The Farmers closed things out in the third set getting up 24-13 collecting the game point on a side-out to win the game in three sets.
The win puts Sargent at 9-0 and keeps them firmly atop the District 1 Volleyball league.
Sargent will try to stay perfect in league play when they play host to South Park this Saturday at 6 p.m.
