Eastern Star local chapter active in Monte Vista

MONTE VISTA— Eastern Star local chapter active in Monte Vista

Some of things that the group has been doing include the purchase of a full-armored suit for a Rio Grande County deputy through the Shield 616 program. The suit cost the chapter $1,400.

Other organizations throughout the Valley also participated in this wonderful project.

The chapter sold live Christmas greens through Mickman Brothers. This was their sixth year and it is always successful.

This project allows the chapter to give to many charities throughout the year. Each year they host a dinner for local first responders, including law enforcement, fire department and the ambulance service.

For many years they have provided a meal during parent teacher conferences for the teachers of Bill Metz, Marsh, Sargent and Del Norte elementary schools. They will be doing this again along with donating $100 to each of the school libraries.

The local chapter sponsored a first aid/ CPR class that was attended by many local residents.

This year’s Grand Chapter charitable projects are the National Mill Dog Rescue and Shriner’s Hospital Patient Transportation. The local chapter will donate money to each of these worthy causes.

If anyone is interested in joining the chapter, please call Anita Olme-Cranson at 719-849-3197.

Meetings are the first and third Tuesday of each month starting at 7 p.m. If you are already a member and would like to come and need a ride, feel free to call any member and we will be glad to pick you up.
