Donald Ray Waller, 82

MONTE VISTA— Donald Ray Waller, 82, of Monte Vista passed away on Thursday, Feb. 1, 2018, at River Valley Inn Nursing Home.

He was born October 14, 1935 in Murphysboro, Ill. to Norman O. and Golda Dixon Waller. He married Bonnie McKinney on June 5, 1955, and after her passing in 2003, married Judith Sewell on June 26, 2004. 

Don lived and worked in Illinois until 1980 when he transferred to Monte Vista as the Western Area Manager for A.E. Staley Company. He retired from Staley in 1991 but later worked for U.S. Wildlife, Town of Del Norte, Alamosa School District and Monte Vista Water Users. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant-Instructor. He enjoyed pitching fast pitch softball, hunting, fishing, working on projects and time spent with his family.

Don was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Daryl.

He is survived by his wife, Judith; daughter, Beth (John) Stokes; daughter, Michelle (Jeff) Moody and son, Brad (Gayle) Waller; his grandchildren, Cari Stokes, Josiah, Sarah, Jonathan and Samuel Moody, Rebecca and Danielle Waller. He is also survived by his brother Dean (Judi) Waller and sister-in-law Donna Waller as well as several brother and sister-in-laws, nephews, nieces and cousins. Judy’s family includes her daughter Sheliah (Glenn) Barrie, her children Ryan Godin and Stacey (Travis) Doe and Stacey’s children Dylan, Katelyn and Ayden Doe, and Judy’s son Mark (Adrianna) Sewell, his children Lloyd, Katherine and Mabel Sewell.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 10, 2018, at Valley Church of the Nazarene, Monte Vista. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to The Gideons International.
