MONTE VISTA— Wizards, witches, Pokemon and ghosts filled the streets of downtown Monte Vista on Thursday and Friday. Children and adults alike enjoyed the Monte Vista Homecoming parade on Thursday afternoon followed by Moonlight Madness on Friday evening.
The parade featured the different classes of Monte Vista High School, clubs and bands. The theme this year was “Harry Potter: Monte Vista Wizarding World. Parade-goers enjoyed many creative floats and outfits making Monte Vista look like the wizarding world of Harry Potter. The Monte Vista Middle School and Monte Vista High School marching bands once again demonstrated their incredible skill and talent to the delight of the crowd.
That night was also the second annual community bonfire (in recent history) held at Ski Hi Park. The celebrations were in anticipation of the homecoming volleyball and football games the following day.
The football game on Friday night was a great highlight to homecoming week as the Pirates defeated Dolores 58-0.
Spooky fun continued on Friday evening with the local merchants participating in the annual Moonlight Madness. Businesses stayed open until 6 p.m. and handed out candy to young trick-or-treaters and their families. The Vali 3 Theater also hosted a haunted house for those who dared to enter.
