Annual Holiday Festival headed to downtown M.V.

MONTE VISTA—This year's Monte Vista Holiday Festival will be held on Friday, Dec. 1 and Saturday, Dec. 2; the theme is “Bringing Peace and Joy Back to Christmas.”

Friday from 12-7 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., the Monte Vista Chamber of Commerce will host a holiday bazaar at the Church of Nazarene gymnasium, 1106 2nd Ave. For more information, contact Jerry at 852-2731.

Friday morning, the Monte Vista Kids Connection will host a community appreciation breakfast and ribbon cutting ceremony at 8 a.m. Enjoy free never-ending pancakes and toppings (donations are encouraged) at 134 Washington St.

At 7 p.m., don’t miss the Ugly Christmas Sweater Dodgeball Tournament at Ski Hi. The co-ed tournament is for anyone 15 years and older; registration is $20/person (bring two canned goods that are non-expired to get $5 off your registration.) Coming up on Saturday, enjoy breakfast with Santa at Stars Restaurant from 8-11 a.m. (cost is $5/children and $7/adults).

Santa’s Workshop, hosted by the Kids Connection, will then be in full swing from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Children in kindergarten through fifth grade are invited to come make Christmas crafts and play games at 134 Washington St.

At 2 p.m. enjoy a free matinee of Polar Express at the Vali 3 Theater.

The Memorial Tree Lighting and Prayer will light up Monte’s Corner at 5 p.m. on Saturday in memory of Madison Archuleta. Also experience caroling by Adams State University’s choral group 68 West.

The parade of lights kicks off at 6 p.m. followed by fireworks. The parade route will begin at Stars & Strikes and go west on Second Avenue to Adams Street. It will then turn right and head north down the 100 block of Adams to Highway 160. The parade will then head west on Highway 160 to the traffic light at Dennis Street; the parade will turn north to the Monte Vista High School parking lot. Stick around after the fireworks for a holiday tailgating party as the junior class parents will be selling hot cocoa and s’mores.

Finally, come by the Monte Vista Kids Connection for North Pole with Santa. Enjoy a cookie and cider while visiting with Santa. There will be a professional photographer to capture the holiday memories, along with face painting and other activities for the children while they wait.
