Alamosa woman killed in Friday night crash

ALAMOSA COUNTY— On Friday, May 11 at 8:29 p.m., a white Chevrolet Venture van was westbound on Colorado Highway 160, approximately four miles west of Alamosa. A black Hyundai Sonata was eastbound on Highway 160. The Chevrolet Venture performed a u-turn and started eastbound, when the Hyundai Sonata rear-ended the van. The van skidded off the right side of the road after the impact. The Sonata spun counter-clockwise after the impact and came to rest in the roadway.
The Chevrolet Venture was driven by Steven Doyle, 46, of Del Norte. He sustained moderate injuries in the crash. One of his passengers, Julius Baroz, 28, of Capulin, also received moderate injuries in the crash. Both were taken to SLV Regional Medical Center. The back seat passenger, Cherryl Vega Ruiz, 31, of Alamosa, died due to injuries sustained in the crash.
The Hyundai Sonata was driven by Brittany Heredia, 20, of Monte Vista. She received minor injuries from the crash and was transported to SLV Regional Medical Center.
Drugs and alcohol are not suspected as being a factor in the crash. The crash remains under investigation.
