Bill Metz Elementary students take part in a 9Health Fair in the classroom.

MONTE VISTA—Bill Metz Elementary and 9 Health Fair provided a dynamic opportunity for health education in late September this year.

Twelve fifth grade students were trained and had the chance to provide leadership by presenting six different health issues. A station was set up for each issue and around 400 students in first through fifth grades rotated to each area over the course of an hour.

Students learned about how exercise can be fun by making up games they could do at home and get their heart rates up. They also learned how to protect their ears from hearing loss and why washing their hands thoroughly can keep them healthier.

The stations included how to protect their skin from the damaging effects of the sun’s UV rays and how wearing a helmet could save their lives while bicycling or skate boarding.
