MOTNE VISTA— Monte Vista City Councilors approved a resolution to employ Mike Garcia as the interim city manager at their Oct. 3 meeting.
Garcia told the board he had been in the city for approximately one week. He said the budget was “first and foremost,” on his agenda. The third draft of the budget was emailed to the department heads with a direction to trim it down.
He would also like to move forward on hiring a finance director. Interviews will start soon and Garcia asked that two or three board members sit in on the hiring committee. He said they will “try to get that filled as soon as possible.”
The human resources department currently has responsibility for payroll. Garcia said he would like to see payroll moved to the finance department, where it is typically handled. Mayor Art Medina expressed concern that the change would place a burden on the finance department. Garcia suggested adjusting job descriptions in both departments.
