MONTE VISTA— Children have been welcome to use the playground at Bill Metz after school and over the weekends, but after an act of vandalism that will no longer be an option.

Principal Gabe Futrell said the police suggested closing the park after vandals destroyed part of a brick structure outside of the auditorium. Futrell said it looked as if someone used a stone like a sledgehammer.

The park will be shut down during evenings and weekends for now. The auditorium was not included in the recent remodel of the school, but the damage is easy to see along the entrance to the building.
