RIO GRANDE COUNTY—On Sept. 22 at noon, the Colorado State Patrol was notified of a head-on collision on Colorado 160 about three miles west of Del Norte in Rio Grande County. The crash left three people dead and one in critical condition.
Troopers have preliminarily determined that a 2001 Porsche, driven by Diane Pool, 63 of Peyton, Colo. was eastbound on Highway 160 when it hydroplaned, spun out of control and went into the westbound lane; into the path of a 2013 Nissan SUV.
The Nissan, driven by Clair Real, 54, of Round Rock, Texas, collided with the Porsche, resulting in the death of Diane and Harry Pool, 68, and the driver of the Nissan. The passenger in the Nissan, Charles Real, 64, was transported to Rio Grande Hospital in Del Norte and later airlifted to a Denver area hospital with critical injuries.
