DEL NORTE — Homicide suspect Daniel M. Bessey, 43, will go on trial in February 2014 for the deaths of two Monte Vista residents.
Ironically, it has been two years since the double homicide, as Twelfth Judicial Judge Martin Gonzales set Feb. 20-28 for Bessey’s trial on two counts of murder in the first degree, as well as a roster of related charges, including child abuse, since he allegedly shot Sarah Beasley, 29, to death while her three sons watched.
Her body was found on the floor of a bedroom in the home she shared with John Salazar, 54, in Monte Vista. Salazar’s body was just outside the back door.
Last Thursday, motions ranged from the endorsement of expert witnesses and reports in the hands of the Colorado Bureau of Investigation to who would have access to files relating to domestic relations cases involving Beasley and Bessey, including child custody matters tried after Beasley’s death.
