DEL NORTE—High Valley Community Center, the Del Norte Chamber of Commerce, and the 2013 Covered Wagon Days committee, have partnered local businesses, organizations, individuals, sponsors, vendors and more to make 2013 Covered Wagon Days one nobody will want to miss.
The event begins with a Spirit and Soul Night Progressive Mexican Dinner on Thursday, Aug. 1 at 6 p.m. Chuck Pyle will perform at Wildwood Sounds at 7:30 p.m.
Saturday starts with the Val Alto Pancake Breakfast, grab some books at the library book sale, check out the great merchant specials and sales, buy a pie and support the Ruth Marie, watch the parade, get some ice cream a the RGC Museum Ice Cream Social and Art Show, lunch at the Firefighter’s barbecue, bring a dog to the Tails from Del Norte, support local artists at the Artists’ Quickdraw and Reception, relax with Gunbarrel Junction at the Windsor Hotel and Dining Room Beer Garden, vote for the People’s Choice Wagon or Best of Show Car and don’t forget the park will be bursting with fun and activities that no one will want to miss.
Sunday wraps it all up with the fly-in breakfast and the Community Church service and potluck
With generous donations from the Rio Grande County Commissioners, Mary Jo Merkley Insurance Agency, Jack’s Market and Del Norte Bank, in addition to the Covered Wagon Days sponsors, HVCC will bring a 30’ x 40’ inflatable obstacle course, good for youth and adults, and an inflatable sports booth. Along with those awesome pieces, there will be a children’s sized obstacle course, jump house and slide, the gumball toss, basketball shoot, duck pond and photo booth.
Other vendors and activities include the DOW mobile archery range, Dreamsicle truck, a nail and makeover booth, jewelry and craft vendors, the National Guard, Kiwanis clowns, the Coke Trailer filled with great carnival food, snow cones and, of course, cotton candy.
For those looking for competitive sports activities, they’ll be happy to know they can participate in Pickleball at 11 a.m., horseshoes at noon or Mud Volleyball at 1 p.m.
Everyone is welcome – pickleball newbies and pickleball pros. Register at the courts. No entry fee for novice bracket, $5 for pros. Call Howard at 588-0024 for more information.
Participants can register for the horseshoe tournament between 10 a.m. and noon and the tossing of the shoes begins at noon. Doubles will play first, followed by singles. There is a $5 entry fee per person and cash prizes will be awarded.
Register by July 29 and bring a team of six of more for mud volleyball with a team entry fee of $30. Each team must have a captain, the tournament begins at 1 p.m., and brackets will depend on how many teams sign up!
HVCC is also looking for all types of talent - young and old, singers, dancers, musicians, performers, comedians, magicians, martial artists and more. Sign up now for 15 minutes of fame. Talent show entries will begin at 1 p.m. and must be family appropriate…”G” rated.
Registration is required for each event and they are accepting parade and vendor applications! The first ten Covered Wagon Days registrations will receive $10 gift certificates to Jack’s Market.
