MONTE VISTA—Former Loveland resident Suzanne Marie Owens passed away May 7, 2013 in Monte Vista, Colorado.
She graduated from Loveland High School in 1964. “Suzie” then attended Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Denver. As an R.N. she worked in Denver at National Jewish Hospital and Fitzsimmons Army Hospital. In the U.S. Army she was stationed in Okinawa, where she specialized in orthopedic and surgical nursing. She treated hundreds of wounded from Vietnam. Suzie loved traveling, especially in her Volkswagen bug. She was an avid sports fan particularly of the Yankees, Cowboys, Broncos and Colorado Buffalos. Friends and family needing sports statistics would just call Suzie.
Suzanne was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Iryne Owens of Loveland and her nephew, Jeffrey Schnurr. She is survived by her brother, Harold Owens, of Ridgecrest, California; sister Yvonne Owens (Glen) Anderson of Medford, Oregon; and much beloved nephews Todd (Charity) Schnurr and Ray and Darren Owens. Her lifelong friends Margie Burden Gray and Rhonda Fogleman McDonnell also survive her. Captain Owens was laid to rest at Fort Logan National Cemetery with full military honors May 21, 2013. In Suzanne’s memory, her family requests that you frequently thank our military service members and veterans for their dedicated service.
