BREAKING NEWS!! Smoke is visible in the Valley from the West Fork Fire

WOLF CREEK PASS— A Red Flag Warning has been issued for Thursday and Friday for the West Fork Fire Complex located around Wolf Creek Pass.

Drier air has moved into the area and dry windy conditions are expected through Saturday.

Tuesday, cloud cover helped to limit the fire’s activity. The fire has grown to 4,070 acres in total. Increased fire activity, intensity and growth is expected.

Stage 1 fire restrictions are in place.

The fire is currently growing to the east of the West Fork River within the Weminuche Wilderness.

Closures in the area include:

• West Fork Trail, also known as Rainbow Hot Springs Trail #561

• Treasure Mountain Trail #565

• Windy Pass Trail #566

• Continiental Divide Trail #831, from its junction with the Middle Fork Trail #589, east and south to its junction with the East Fork Road (NFSR 667) at Elwood Pass on the Rio Grande National Forest

• Lobo Overlook

The complex includes two wildfires the West Fork and Windy Pass fires. The fires are in steep, rugged terrain burning bettle-killed spruce.

West Fork started on June 5 from a lighting strike. The fire has moved north up the West Fork drainage and into the Beaver Creek Draining. This fire has burned 3,116 acres as of June 18.

Windy Pass also started by lighting on June 13. It is located south of the Wolf Creek Ski Area and east of Treasure Falls. This fire has burned a total of 164 acres as of June 18.
